God I'm shattered its so hard sitting out in glorious sunshine, pulling bream in one after the other, my arm aches (actually that bits true) .... Had a great time, we (Me and my lad, Fishy, Juggla and son, and Terry) met up as said at about 6:00am at the blyth services, some a little later than other. i.e Terry straight from a night shift. We got fleeced at the services, £13 for 2 breakys and £5 for 2 coffee, cheers Mal lol. We made our way down to the complex and it was virtually empty, I drove straight to peg 1 on pit 4, the first double pegger and bagged the right side of it ;D no one was shifting me. We had a little walk up the bank looking at pegs at about 7:15am poor fishy didn't know wanted to do first, he was like a cartoon character doing double takes at the lake, he was tottering back and forth to the car unloading like a mad man, some very big bream where topping in his peg, poor fella was like a kid on Christmas morning, not knowing what to open first, ;D I went back to my peg, and got myself setup, the usual, cooker, 3 piece suite, kitchen and the sink got round to the rods, I fished a Green Swim Stim and fishmeal powder, with halibut pellets and sweetcorn on a method. Now because I had my lad, and the Girlfriend was coming with her lad, I decided pod only, you know so i could chat and what not, so it was 3lb rods (hehe) 12lb mainline and 8lb bottom to size 8 and a boilie on one, and corn on the other. I cast these one straight out to 40 yards, and the other about 20 yards, there is a gravel bar in this peg, hence me wanting it, and yep its about 40 yards out (hence the arm ache), and it wasn't that long before the first fish came in, but the bites were hard to come by for most of the morning. So the feeder came out, and again 40yards out, a lot smaller now, 3lb bottom and size 18 and single grain of corn, the bites started, 3 fish came in to about 8lb or so So back to the pod, again a change, so remember, 3lb test curve rods, a big method ball, and 3lb bottom to 18 with one single piece of corn on the hook. a crazy setup. but it worked. A fish was coming in, or a bite at least every 20/30 mins or so, ok not match standards, but i thought ill take that It carried on till about 11:30pm, and then it was time to hit the sack, pulled the rods in, and slept like a baby right till 7:45 this morning, ;D do like my kip. we had a few fish this morning, had breakfast in the sun, while having a slow pack down. To sum up, I reckon about 20 fish came out of this peg, on silly tactics, but it was good fun, and I'm very chilled here. Broke my PB that was 7lb 4oz its now 8lb 9oz, Ive no idea if this photo is the actual fish lol, but its a fish to show the stamp. ill let Juggla post his piccys Thanks to Juggla for sharing the peg, it was nice to see Terry and Norbs again, and to meet Fishy and Andrew (mcsheffield) Si

Pecker (LOL) OK this is my account from yesterday morning to getting back home this afternoon 4.00 am the alarm chimes the start of what for me and our spike was a wonderfull 24 hours of being out and about Thought i would have had trouble getting our Spike out of bed but no worries, just the mention of " OK Mike lets go fishing" had the young man straight out of bed and dressed in record time and with all the gear packed we hit the motorway network at 5.15am and made our way to the meeting place of great minds....Blyth Services... a tad expensive compared to Janes place(as i know it) but good grub all the same Met up with Terry and Fishy and travelled in propper bream bashing convoy to A1 pits( BIG CLUE HERE GARY ;D ;D ;D) The day Well lets just say it was a more young angler orientated day as they caught more than me ;D ;D ;D and it was nice to take time to teach the young masters of the art how to go about achieving their goal, then how to handle fish in a propper manner and release them safely Also very nice to meet Andrew a very like minded gent(hope you got back through the rush hour ok) The night We pulled the rods at 12 midnight and hit the bivvy`s Our spike slept like a log , me well not so good between the High speed trains and the motoway i may have grabbed a few zeds but i could hear critters outside the bivvy the kept me a bit uneasy during the hours of darkness MORNING (thankyou God) Up at 3.30 and out of the bivvy at 4.00 just sat there watching the world around me wake up and for me this was wonderful , all those misty ghosts being chased off the lake by the rising sun and through the mist seeing hundreds of bream all up on the top locked onto the hatch of that particular hour I think we had in total 18 fish for our efforts and only one was below 6lb Here are some photos Sorry for not mentioning weights...cant remeber but they were BIG Here are some photos Sorry cant put my finger on the weights at this time but they went from 7lb to just under 9lb on average Really enjoyed the company and as i type, Fishy should be bagging up big style as he moved into the peg we vacated and recieved " THE KNOWLEDGE" as to how and what and where, so more to follow me thinks ;D ;D ;D, believe me when i say this, there were plenty who wanted to get in on our peg as we did the slow pack away routine ;D ;D ;D Had a wonderful time and cant wait for the next one ;D ;D ;D Cheers juggla02

It's not often a plan works out so I'm really glad you got in to the slabs. You definitely deserved it after the effort and planning. I usually find that the longer that I spend planning and looking forward to a trip the more likely it is that everything goes pear shaped on the day! ;D

Hello All
Whilst at A1 pits the other day fishing for a few bream i noticed quite a commotion to the left of where i was sat, lots of crashing and banging in the reeds to my left and to my great surprise a Tench around the 2lb mark emerged from the reeds at great speed and hid in a clump of reeds right in front of me not a foot off the bank. The Tench was quickly followed by a fair sized pike that had Tench on the menu as far as supper was concerned
Now not too far away the mini Dominator sat in his chair cooling his little tootsies off in the lake with a very hungry Pike less than 18 inches away from his toes, i pointed this out to Dom but we were all transfixed by the plight of the Tench and that of the Pike and luckily for Dom the Tench made the first move and was snaffled by the pike
Dom picked his chair up and took a few paces back toward dry land and relative safety
The speed of the strike was Awesome, cant even try to put it into words
We all just stood there, open mouthed at what had just unfolded before us
Sorry to detract from the bream but was part of the experience we were all immersed in ;D ;D

it was a first for me to see such a take, fantastic to watch, the interesting part for the pike angler, was the pike, as I was led to believe, didnt take the fish from the front or back, nope it took it side on, and swam off with the tench side ways in its jaws, not actively chomping, but as if to go find some peacefull spot to munch on its lunch.
It was my second pike in the margin sighting in the last few weeks (Cundal Lodge on the swale) just shows how much of a different animal they are, much braver when full of energy.

well here goes, arrived at services way to early in the morning to know what i was doing to meet big Si, juggla and terry. After being served by dick Turpin(he didn't have a mask on but still robbed us all) for breakfast and a drink. we set off for a1 pits after recovering from the shock of how much breakfast cost. arrival at pit 4 saw Si go straight to a peg which made me think he new something i didn't. so there we were Si and juggla in the double. terry in the next me in the other corner. as i was looking at what the swim had to offer we all noticed a big shoal of bream about 20 meters out, so like a kid i rushed emptying the car and there was a lot of stuff to take out. in a hurry to set up my waggler rod 2 foot deep with double maggot on the hook to try and take a few off the top. after trying for 2 hours a gave up mixed up some ground bait and started with 2 swims. all day i didn't have a bite so i resorted to fishing the edge for roach and perch.
about 6 O'Clock i was talking to my mate who had come down for the night and noticed terry packing up, he had to rush home. so i thought i would have a better chance from his peg than the 1 i was in so i moved into that peg, after about 2 hours of baiting up and waiting i had a screaming bite alarm and reel, i was in had nice fish of about 7lb 3 more fish came into darkness up to about 11pm.
Saturday morning woke up feeling stiff as a bored (slept in car don't recommend it). after waking up cast in and had breaky, nothing much happened fish wise until i saw big Si clearing up, i knew he had had some fish out so wanted that peg if he was going but so did every 1 else on the lake, so me and my mate quickly claimed the peg and got comfy. again nothing much happened through the day so i put in about 40 orange sized balls of ground bait onto gravel bar and fished over with both rods. about 6.30 after going to kfc and deciding to stay all night again i had another screaming bite which was the first of many for us both. end result was 16 fish to me and 14 to my mate with the best been 9lb 2oz about 10pm to me on single corn to 16 hook. IL put up my photos when i can remember how to do it. all in all an excellent weekends fishing in the best of company.

Well Done Fishy and Co ;D ;D Really chuffed for you I knew you lads would do well off the bream peg so well done chaps You cant imagine how many folks wanted that peg, we felt it right that it should go to members of the bream brigade, those that traveled across Yorkshire to the meeting place of great minds and got fleeced for the brekkie then spent all day and all night still trying, still wanting to contribute, still hoping for that first bream so WELL DONE GENTLEMEN a cracking catch ;D ;D ;D juggla02

I'm no expert at pike fishing at all.... BUT I thought it was fairly common knowledge that pike often take their prey fish from the side and then motor off with them? They then turn them in their jaws and swallow them headfirst. As a nipper when using livebaits (can't remember about deadbaits, perhaps that's the distinction - i.e they can take them however they like - they're dead ;D) suspended under an old fashioned pike bung. I recall that a number of pike anglers I used to know would not strike until the fish had charged off and stopped (turning it's prey to swallow and hence best chance of setting the hook) and then they would strike when the bung started to move off again - usually much slower ;D njc. p.s, I could be wrong and I'm no expert but I definitely remember that advice and to be fair when you think about a pike laying in wait under a weed raft or whatever - it's far more likely to almost always get the fish side on first.....

Nige Thank you for not taking the advice you were given to heart as a youngster and putting it into practice mate as you would have on your hands at the very best a deep hooked pike and at worst a gut hooked pike if you had followed the advice given...they deserve better In summer or the warmer months any indication of a take as far as i am concerned would be acted upon without delay the same applies in the cooler months as well and i have landed more than i have bumped off, all hooked where they should be , i would sooner loose a good fish than see it deep hooked As for Esox girls that lunch, they will take em any which way they can as far as their natural larder goes, head first, snatched by the tail, sideways on they don't care but it all goes down head first Dom's toes came out tops that day and the tench lost out BIG style, if the pike had come from depth over the gravel bar and struck then we would have witnessed a head on take and it would have probably used the roots of the reeds to force its lunch down its cake hole ;D Utter eating machines mate...i love em

Absolutely years since I've fished for pike and never really enjoyed it much in truth. Not sure why it's never appealed really... Maybe I should give it another go this Winter njc.

Just done a bit of maths, with Mine, Juggla's, Fishy's and his mate's fish, in around 60hours, peg1 on pit 4 produced around 384lb of fish. 18+16+14*8lb (average) = 384lb ok its a long time, but thought it was an interesting stat qwerly are you the bailif? Si
