Thanks to Pecker for the PM with the idea, my missus for letting me play out and Lee for showing me just how much i still have to learn, Fished from 6pm to 3pm on Lake 4, ill let pecker sum up his night if he wants Me and Lee, 2 rods with alarms on and feeder with starlight on all night, 4 Bream to me with a new PB of 7.12lb, and 21 to Lee with 3, 9lb fish, smallest fish all night was 6.5lb, sadly no one broke the magic 10lb, maybe next time. For most of the night i sat and watch in awe as Lee cast 35yards to within 10" of the same spot all night, where as me I was lucky to be in a 10ft radius, we fished the same tackle, same mix, with 2 pieces of corn on a 14, guess of his total weight about 160lb, (didnt net any) I cant complain still i beat my PB by over 4lb ;D ;D and had a good night in good company Pics A Rather damp and tired Si

I think it was all down to accuracy and work rate to behonest Tom, Lee caught evenly all the time, but he put the effort in and got that bed of bait out there, were as me just not accurate enough and struggled to hit extremly small bites, there were no rod pulls at all, all bites where 2" taps, I just got lucky with the ones i got.
£10 a night go give it a go, they go to about 13lb i believe in here.

Sorry for the late entry everyone . I needed my bed more than the PC yesterday ! A trip to the Trent turned into a 50 mile drive to within 500 yards of it on Thursday evening . A last minute chat with BigSi changed the venue to the A1 pits at North Muskham . We had the lake to ourselves and there were only a handful of anglers on the entire complex . Maybe possibilities for a YF overnight meet up ?? I will post on the subject and see if there are any takers . I know Si and Lee will go back and the Mooster is up for it . The venue , as Si said , is full of really good Bream which we targeted , but is actually a Carp water with some very large specimens . Something to suit everyone looking for that elusive biggy ? When i go again I'll refrain from putting a big bed of feed out to draw the fish . This might stop the frustration of a session of liners , plucks and tiny taps . Lee showed the way by building up the swim throughout and in a compact area . Lesson learnt . BigSi caught more than me due in part to his persistence with a bait he had faith in . Mussel boillies. Again lessons to be learnt there . Corn then worm then dead reds then boillies etc is just confusing matters. If you're looking for a quiet session then this is not the place for you . The A1 pits obviously have a major road running alongside . Think about it . This coupled with the adjacent railway track , means things don't calm down till around midnight . I'll be back , with Lee's tactics and Si's persistence and hopefully more big slabs . Great laugh with the lads . Far too little sleep and far,far too much very strong coffee ! Let me know if you fancy it and i will try to cobble together a day / night out with some of the YF crowd . Cheers to Lee and Si . Gary

I thought you were going to fish the river alongside the pits? Oh well never mind. A new personal best Bream is not to be sneezed at,compared with my total from the Swale last night. (0) Barbel. Naff, zip, nowt. Get the idea! BOF

Si,
It this an open invite ?
Never done a nighter and keep going on about it. Prob freeze me bits and bobs but will be an experience or at least a lesson ! ! !
Need to get wife clearance though (which is the tricky bit).
PS: No laughing at the floral sun lounger.........
A rough idea of what I would need and to expect would would also give us a clue to whether I should even bother cause when I say I have nowt, i mean it.

Post by bigsi on Aug 18, 2005 14:17:04 GMT
of course it is mate, 2 schools of overnighters
1) tent and all that lot, go to sleep and wait for a fish. 2) fish as you do in the day but at night
for over night i prefer option 2.
And we all tend to over pack, cos you think are going to die or something lol, funny aint it
my list will be 1 carp rod, alarm, bait runner 12lb line on that 1 medium feeder rod, with size 40 reel 6lb line on that a chair a brolly a good flask with black drink (stays hotter longer) either a method feeder or a large feeder will do, and say wot 4lb and 10lb hooklengths with some size 10 or 8's on, you can go barbed here. water bottled toilet rolls most important a light, if you have time and can get a LED headlamp, fantastic, mine was a tenner from a walking store, its not too bright but a god send.
Ill take me cooker and pots and pans,
Bite detection, well alarm or isotopes, (good ones we paid the price last time)
At the end of the day if your tired put the back seats down and go kip in there
Trust me guys we will come back alive.

Well said BigSi . Get fishing and worry about pots , pans and kitchen sinks when you get home . Leave all that to the marquee boys . Can't emphasise enough about the head light . I ended up paying 12 quid for mine on the way down the A1 . It paid for itself twice over in one session . I mainly used it to spotlight the fish i spent all night netting for Lee ! ;D If i was to give any advice on the venue it would be this . Don't go mad on the prebait . Build the swim up during the evening . Most importantly keep the feed area tight or you will suffer "passing fish liners" all night as i did . Also worth noting that Lee caught a couple of dozen fish on nothing fancier than brown crumb and sweetcorn in an open feeder . Keep it simple and if you forget to bring anything , don't worry , Si takes four of everything . Gary

.......and then some . Martins tent/marquee(delete as applicable) puts Billy Smarts to shame . Must say what a fantastic thread this is, filled with real excitement and giddiness! Classics such as Nafanglers 'No laughing at the floral sun lounger' and 'Im as giddy as a school girl" tell me your all gonna have one hell of a night. Good on you guys, would have joined you but will be busy selling 'kisses from Adam' to passers by . Look forward to your hearing all about it. Andy.
