Drayton, which is what I assume you mean, always fishes well, according to a number of pals that have fished it regularly, and with sceens like this I can see why:- The difficulty is that the fish are now a bit big for pole fishing. So go equipped with at least Avon rods and reels with some strong line (minimum 6 to 8lb b.s.), and bet you still wont land them all! BOF

I'll be there Bas. Maybe not for the whole thing, but I will be there for as much as I can. I was warned that a 5 hour match can leave you with arms like Popeye, but I can always reel in for a breather. ;D BOF

Just back from the social down at Drayton Reservoir. What an amazing "do" that was. 48 hours of banter, fish, mossies, fish, good Chineese food, bad own cooking, sweltering heat, followed by sudden rain, fish, fish and yet more fish. Due to the state of match bookings and the general restriction on the number of possible bivvy pegs we were in a set of not very "hot" pegs, yet 3 out of the 8 of us still managed to catch a combined total of at least 1000lb of Carp to normal Carp tactics, and thats a very conservative estimate. I dont know what the others did as I had to leave 6 hours early to be back home for an appointment. But all were catching still, as I drove out of the car park. Two things to remember are:- 1) That the fish in there like some snap! Take plenty, and in the warmer weather do not be afraid to use it, liberally. 2) The bailiff Mark Ryder does know what he is talking about, and if he says try such and such a peg in these conditions, listen to the guy. In our case it was only on the last evening that Colin and I moved to pegs that he had urged us to try from the first hour. Naturally we caught as much in 5 hours as we had managed in all the rest of our time there, with no less than four, two rod hook ups! More on it all later. BOF

For me my homemade boilies did all the work, but fake Corn over Vitalin "Method mix" went well for a number of the lads. As did fishing a popped up bait about a foot under the surface on a zig rig. Forget about what I said about Avon rods and 6 to 8lb line, by the way, the fish have grown since the guy I got that advice from last went. That or he is MUCH better at playing fish than I am. You may need something a bit beefier now, say 2lb Carp rods, (I used 2 1/4's), 12lb mainline and 8 lb mono hooklinks, (no braids unless they are coated), and of course barbless hooks. The fish are really fit, and fight like crazy. It's no wonder, given the savage takes, that folk loose rods. Hope you enjoy yourselves as much as we did. Oh yes, take Mark, the bailiffs, advice about which peg to fish and when, if you have a choice. BOF

Here you go Pozzy: www.fisheries.co.uk/drayton/index.htmCan only echo what Bof has said, packed so full of hard fighting fish it is unbelievable, felt like I had been on the recieving end of a good kicking after 2 days on there, lol ;D. The Bailiff Mark and his wife Angie cannot do enough to help you, he sold my brother a set of rods for £200 and let him drive away with them and send the money down to him, top bloke. My boy lives 10 minutes away from there so a few more trips are definately on the cards. Must add to anyone thinking of doing a night here make sure you put your butt rings tight behind your alarms and cable tie your pod down to the deck, these fish will rip your rods right off your pod, take it from me , good job I can laugh about it now. Gives me an excuse for a bit of tartitis ;D Paul.
