A bunch of my mates went last monday, the had all cod, the biggest was 14lb, but the vast majority was between 5 and 8lb, the biggest catch on the boat was 6 stone of fish, they all enjoyed it apart from one, who was hung over the side most of the time, they fished on the dogger bank.

Thanks guys, I've booked for the 28th July for a 46 hour trip for my mate and me and i'm really looking forward to it, i've not been sea fishing for about 5 or 6 years and that was only a cobble at Brid', I've never been fishing as far out as these guys go so it should be a good experience and hopefully a freezer full of cod!!!

dogger bank used to be about a 14hr run Micky, fished it once about 18 yrs ago, quite a bit shallower than the usual Whitby marks, the cod fought more like salmon. The skipper had a 42lb ling on the Pirk and two 30lb Cod on the muppets. Biggest Cod I had was 32lb. We were using 150 lb traces, I kept getting busted using 100lb, especially when you hooked three fish at once We barely had a fish under 20lbs. Things have changed though and the big fish just arent around anymore, as I said this was nearly 20 years ago.

Cheers for that messer! Heard theyre averaging around 4 stone per person per trip filleted, not sure what sizes but i dont thik theres many 30s around anymore! 32lb cod must have been fun to haul up, little chance of that these days so you must feel quite priveleged to have done it.

went out with colin on saturday strong tide and a good blow made fishing less than easy and a few struggled, i bagged up with mackerel had a god pollock of about 8lb a couple of codling few small ling and a good few whiting, biggest fish of the day was a ling of about 12lb followed by my pollock and a codling of similar size. if anyones unsure of a boat and a brilliant skipper i can't recommend colin "saxon lady" highly enough he'll do his best to keep you on fish and his prices are reasonable too £30 for a 10hr trip

I finally got out on the Chieftain on the 18th after a few cancellations due to lack of numbers on a 36hr trip 90 miles out just off the Dogger bank, very high tides and a strong wind, i've never felt as bad in my life, but was only sick once then i was ok-ish, some were bad all 36hrs, there was a good 12 foot swell with choppy seas, the fishing was poor to say the least as the skipper couldn't get decent position over the wrecks but he tried his heart out i'll give him that. I got about 12 cod/codling in the end biggest being around 8lb. I got so fed up with hauling my 1.5lb ripper up and down with nothing taking, i decided to stick on some mackerell feathers and had some good fun filling my bucket with this winters pike bait- I got about 80 in all. In hindsight it was an enjoyable experience but at certain times out there id have sold my house for a chopper to come pick me up, I think everyone else on board would have chipped into that kitty!! I certainly fancy giving it another go but hopefully in fairer weather!
