I will be finding myself with the wife and inlaws in Fishguard in Wales at the end of this Month. In order to keep me married I will need to get some time out Fishing (of any sort!), I may be mistaken but I think this area has good beach casting and rock fishing ? I am strictly a course man and my tackle reflects this (although I have some good pike and carp gear) can I get away with this and just buy abit of terminal tackle? Anyone fished around here? any general advice on rigs? any hot spots? Steve.

You need to contact Beachball, he's spent quite some time down that way, (I think his Mum lives overlooking the terminal), and he's been known to spend some time fishing around the harbor area, using a heavy feeder rod. The only tip I can give is DO NOT BUY ANY FOOD OR DRINK IN THE TERMINAL*, (but the little cafe opposite on the approach road isn't bad). *Rip off Britain is in residence there and working overtime! www.cymfishing.com might help Sparkin. I really enjoyed heavy ledger fishing with black lug and sandeel from the harbour arm at Goodwick had loads of small pollock ,i did try a mackeral flapper but got plagued by crabs. the chandlers opposite the arm has a good selection of baits but give them a ring for the black lug . However around the back of Goodwick there is a fantastic course and trout fishery with carp and grass carp too 20lb i can't remember the name of it at the moment but i'll get back to you with the name of the place . Regards Malc. found it here you go www.yet-y-gors.co.uk .

Cheers for the info Malc, so it looks like I will get away with a carp rod and some 15lb line. Am I right in saying that the best time to fish is a couple of hours either side of high tide ? Also I understand spinning for Bass and Pollack could be an option from rocks? Do they run charter fishing boats from the harbour ? Steve

Yo Steve i'd go 20lb line personally, but yeah a couple of hours each side of high tide is the best time. I am afraid i have not tried fishing from the rocks so i can't comment, but the people in the chandlers can give you good information on how it is fishing in the area , they'll also put you onto a good captain for a days boat fishing. Regards Malc.

Cheers Malc, Looks like the 20lb braid then, I am going to stick to the sea fishing and not get tempted to the carp lakes, for one I just always take too much tackle when I go course fishing and would get too much grief!! and it would be a shame to go to a place with such good sea fishing and not try it out..even if I only catch a bucket full of crabs..! I would love to catch somthing from the sea with my Pike Lures I have some soft shads that may do the trick... Steve.
