Hi Mate.
I Was in the very same boat as you about a year ago now.
Just getting back into fishing and wanting to test my skills against some good anglers. I joined this site to get some venue information and try and pick up some tips from the other members along the way.
I saw a thread on here about the OS Style matches (Old Style) where all the matches were for fun, no money involved apart from the pegging fee, which was £8 last year, i don't know if it will be changing this year?, thats one for Hammy(OS Match Organizer) to tell us when he sees this thread.
Anyways the first match that i went on was at Sunrise Lakes(Hi John) on their match lake.
I'd never fished a match before and when i got there knew no-one but they made me feel very welcome, MGHill,Hammy,D4Fingers,Warden etc you get the drift.
They explained to me how all the matches worked and the format of what would happen. Helped me set up my new pole and get used to plumbing up and landing fish. Had a good laugh and caught a few fish, not that many on my 1st match but i enjoyed it. (Look at me now, a top angler
with recent money pick ups from some of the matches I've been fishing
)
Back to the pub we went after for a Bevvy and a chat.
Anyways, I'll get to the point now and stop blabbing on.
Yorkshire Fishing are running a 6 Match series this year, Spread across 3 venues, Sunrise Lakes(Spofforth), The Oaks(sessay), and Pine Lakes(Thorne)
The 1st Match being at the oaks, On Maple lake, We have booked 20pegs as we want the matches to be fun and not over competitive i think is what they're aiming for.
Sat 24th May is the date of the 1st match and there will be spaces available that will be posted up once the match organizers decide to open it up.
You'll be more than welcome to come along to that one and there will be lots of help available to you and hopefully catch a few fish as well.
It may give us a better idea about distances for you and also help us to give you a bit more info if you tell us where abouts you live, not your full address obviously, just the town/area you live. and also what gear you have, if you have a pole or are you just running line?.
If you don't have a pole don't worry, as all the venues will cater for all types of fishing, from the waggler to the feeder to the pole, and every method is capable of winning the match..
Just to stress this, these matches are for FUN, There is no prize money on offer, all you pay are your pegging Fee's.
Hope to see you at Sessay, Keep checking back for the booking thread to open up and get your name down and come and learn a bit and have a good days worth of craic and some good fishing.
Tight lines.
Darren
