Got back last night from my annual spring harvest trip to Butlins, managed to get a couple of sessions fishing in as well ;D ;D, fished a venue called Herons Mead close to Skegness stadium for those who know that area, what an awesome venue, quite rightly named in the angling times top 50 venues, the owners have done a lot of work in the few years they have had the venue, I was very impressed with the approaches to the pegs as well as the none slip pegs themselves, well spaced out, with good parking and a well stocked shop,(baitwise)
Talked to a couple of guys fishing there who were staying on this site, who lived close to where I live now and found out that the owner used to live in the next village to where I was brought up,(small world)on a days fishing 100 miles from home ,when Simon (the owner) bought the venue he had it netted to see what was in he said there were thousands of Tench as well as Carp, some now at 20lbs + Roach, Rudd and all the usual fish including some very big Perch,
I fished at the side of the two lads I had spoke to and between us we must have had 150lbs of Tench,as well as to many silvers to count, I had about 40 from about 1lb up to 4lbs (there are bigger ones in here) the only difficulty was getting the bait down to the bottom (on the limited tackle I had) as the Rudd and Roach which I caught up to about 1-5lb’s grabbed everything that did not go down to the bottom at great speed ,all three of us lost Carp,(go prepared)on the rigs we were fishing,
Will definately fish here again.
