Since this new board is all about open match fishing i though I'd post up a thread where we can all have a grumble or a rejoice about how the match went.
It was the usual story for me - not enough time spent in preparation meant I arrived with three rigs which were barely suitable given the gusty wind and a damaged cupping kit which I could have fixed if I'd only known before I arrived!
Left me fishing short lines and reasonably aggressively feeding and then following the fish out as they backed off. Plan A not going to bad although I trashed the first rig in the wind within half an hour and the second one went about 2 and a half hours in trying to save a section blowing in the drink I reflexively used my top kit and trashed the rig in the bankside vegetation.
With a couple of hours to go I caught a trout on steroids which marauded through all of the near lines that had been producing for me and I never got another fish until 3 minutes from the end - Adding insult to injury the guy pegged behind me who i was near enough level pegging with till that point really got into a purple patch in those last 2 fishless hours of mine to put 30odd pound on the scales to win his section and £100. I ended up with just short of 16lb - Enjoyed the match though and only myself to blame if my tackle isn't right on the day!! ;D
Not entirely sure how the rest of the YF lads got on, but I think most caught - i believe Silverfox lead the YF pack with 19lb odd well done mate!. Stories to follow hopefully?
Big up to Kev for organising a cracking day out and to everyone who turned up and/or contributed. I thoroughly enjoyed it and will be back next year!
Story wouldn't be complete without saying well done to everyone who won in the raffle. Goldenarm in particular proving his name to be richly deserved - perhaps didn't draw an absolute flyer but was first out of the raffle drawbag to take the star prize!!! ;D The East Yorkshire teams very own Dave Whitty walking away with a rod and a couple of reels ;D - Not forgetting BigSi of course who received ample payment for running the scales with a huge amount of prizes.
And yours truly? - well at least I won a poxy quid off the lads
