Nick from Reels on Wheels has allowed me to copy this from his site, It sounds a fantastic place.
I was invited to Aston Park Fisheries by Ian Cloke who writes for Anglers Today.
Ian is registered disabled himself so he is keen to promote Reels on Wheels.
When you arrive at Aston Ponds you drive past the first two ponds up the lane to then find three more ponds and a sign saying Aston Park Fishery.
The owner Alex Mitchell who fished for the famous Barnsley Blacks for 5 years won’t be far away and will give you a very warm welcome – if he is out on the fishery you will be greeted by Sarah his better half.
Alex and Sarah haven’t had the ponds long so there is a great deal of work in progress, but the pond has parking next to it and ALL the pegs on Lilly Pond have new wooden platforms and the nearest 4 or 5 to the parking area are 5ft wide.
The platforms have been constructed with decking and are level – all that remains to do with them is raise the kicker boards and put a lip down the sides.
I fished one of these pegs and felt very safe and secure and I enjoyed the fishing as did Ian who fished the next peg down – there are a total of 41 pegs on LILLY.
Lilly Pond
New Platform
Alex has just restocked the ponds with over 10,000 fish, including: Carp to 30lb+, Tench to 3lb+, Bream to 4lb+, Roach, Perch, Barbel and Crucians.
Pleasure fishing is available 7 days a week - from Dawn till Dusk - with 140 pegs to choose from.
Alex and Sarah plan to have wheelchair-friendly platforms on all 3 ponds with car parking either behind or very close, they will be putting in disabled toilets as there are none at the moment –
Both Alex and Sarah have been working extremely hard, and at the time of my visit Sarah was due to have her first child in about 3 weeks time, so Bridget, Sarah’s mum, was also there to help.
Bridget, Sarah, Me and Alex
If you visit and need any help getting your gear to your peg you only have to ask and somebody will be only too pleased to assist you.
I feel that Aston Park Fishery is one for the future and will be the best around for many miles.
So to all of you at Aston Park Fishery I thank you for your help your hospitality during my 2 day stay with you and I must thank Ian Cloke for introducing me to Alex - and to Angie, Ian’s wife, for all the running around she did.
A few of the Fish to be found in Lilly.
