Pellet and paste are the best baits on Pollawyn. Tactics vary according to peg choice and time of year. Best pegs are on the so-called "high bank", especially 18, 25, 26, 27, 28, 29, 30, with 27 being perhaps the pick of the bunch. The "point" pegs can also be prolific, especially 19 and 20, although the form of these pegs depends on wind direction. Paste down the first shelf (6m) or down the second shelf (9m) can be a great tactic, as can fishing shallow with pellet on either pole (13m+) or waggler. Feeder or straight-lead can also score, but is perhaps not as en vogue as it used to be down there. Floaters are effective in the warmer months, but are banned in the matches there as far as I am aware. The fish in "Polly" average about 5lb, but you will catch all sizes from 1lb to double figures. There are LOADS of bream and skimmers in Polly which will keep you entertained in between the carp. There are a couple of write-ups of sessions on Pollawyn on my Blog: scholars-diary.blogspot.com/Feel free to send me a PM if you want any more White Acres info. Tight lines, Gary

if u can get on the high bank or on either of the points you are in for a good day. another tactic that we used a couple of years ago was popped-up bread, fish the bomb with a long tail so that a piece of bread crust is about 12" under the surface. Then just keep pinging a few 8mm pellets over the top to get the carp feeding and attract a few from nearby. if u cannot get on polly don't worry too much as Sycamore is a good "second best" with the carp averaging prolly 5lb+ again, bread, pellets (8mm hard ones), meat & paste all work well. As does surface baits but being a match angler i don't tend to use them. counting down the days 'til i'm back down there, roll on July!
