just thought i would tell you of a new water we tried , it is called Trent Side fishery at Burton upon Stather, near Scunthorpe. To get to it you have to go through Burton upon Stather till you get to the Sheffield Arms turn left down the hill then left again at the phone box turn right follow the road along you will see the lake on your left. wow what a lake , very natural , scenic, right next to the Trent . The fishing was good considering it is winter the pikers were out in force and had some good pike out, perch and silver fish (roach Rudd) on talking to the owner he has said that there will be free fishing for the next couple of months he showed us his photo album of the fish caught this summer and they are big and perfect 22lb carp good tench large pike up to 22lb there is even a catfish which has eluded the fisherman and have accounted for a lot of lost tackle and accounted for broken poles and a couple have lost the poles in the water to it , they have a web site www.trentsidefishery.co.uk and are constantly improving the area a portaloo on site , they hope to have a new pond open this year we had an excellent day fishing and talking to the other fishermen & women ,night fishing is allowed by arrangement day ticket £5 and yearly subscription available very reasonable . I have to say we will be back shortly and we are taking up a yearly membership. excellent fishing!!!!!

Welcome to the site Sadie.... just had a browse of their website, looks a very impressive place and I think one I'll definitely have a go at this summer. Looks like something for every kind of angler looking at the photo gallery. Does look very well kept and not inundated with pointless rules, just the trust that anglers will use common-sense....maybe a little too trusting with some of the numpties I've encountered! Also Scunny isn't a million miles for me...thanks for posting! Norbs....

Hey Sadie,
Welcome to the site.
That does look like a nice place, one on the 'to visit' list for this year.
Regards

It is a nice place, though not as nice as it used to be, its across the road from my house.
Was once a fantastic tench water, though few knew of it. The hundreds of pastie carp recently introduced have put paid to that though. The tench did not show at all well last summer.
Worth a trip out though.

Hi Tony...
how often did you fish the place last year? Any decent results or is it all little carp now?
I think Sadie above may be a little biased as the only posts made have been about trentside...possibly linked to the fishery??

Norbs, Used to be a fantastic tench water, not easy, full of weed and natural food, but those who knew how had some fantastic fish. Best tench I saw was 9.11.....a big fish for the North, that was about 4 years ago.
The big pike reported was caught in 1986, though one or two good ones came out last year.
I only bothered with it a handfull of times last summer and didnt catch much though my mate, who has fished it for the last 35 years, did 10 sessions or so for 3 tench in total.
Not what it was in the past though it may throw up some good fish on occasion and will return to its former glory if the new owner, who is a nice bloke, can learn to just leave it alone, it thrived on neglect.
Lots of carp stocked this last two years but they dont seem to show much, a lot died as seen in AT, spring virus thingy.
I used to pop over for an evening sesh and have 5 or 6 tench to 7lb on a regular basis a few years ago, just fishing bread in the margins, not these days though.
