Hi all, I'm planning a long weekends fishing this summer, basing my self on the banks of the River Severn, with maybe a day on the Wye or/and Teme. I will be mainly targeting Barbel mainly but will also be trying for other species. I am looking at the Holt Fleet area of the Severn, does anyone know of any decent Day ticket fishing around this area on the Severn, Teme and Wye? And any tips: Bait/methods ect would be much appreciated. PM's welcomed... come on secret squirrel, you know you can help many thanks Jon

Jon Have you thought about posting the same message on BFW. This being a Yorkshire based site you will probably get more up to date info from the Severn regulars over there.

From Holtfleet weir, which in itself is good barbel area,me and my mate fished at Astley Burf last September and had over 70 barbel averaging 7-8lb in the week, plus some decent chub. The Hempstall Inn has a stretch right outside its door,£5 a day-ticket.Another good stretch is at Larford lake,£5-day-ticket.Another stretch we were told of but did not fish, was the island at the weir just below Stourport, supposed to hold some good chub and barbel. Our best barbel was9lb 13oz,with 12 others over 9lb,all caught on halibut pellets.By the way Larford lake has a good cafe on site.Hope this helps and tight lines!----Ricky

Cheers Ricky Jason, thought I'd try to get a bit of info of here first, knowing that a few people on here, have fished the Waters in question, up to date or not its a start. Plus they're all talking about raft races on the BFW Severn thread at the moment Regards

I read on BFW yesterday, that the charity organisation are giving up raft racing, because of the danger to p---ed up rafters, but this was in the Bridgenorth sections.

Birmingham anglers have a huge numbers of waters around that area and it's £26 for the year, cheaper than day tickets for a week and you can catch some big fish. They have Warks Avon, Teme, severn and stour. Great club with easy access and great fishing.

Spot on Richwak. Each year I wonder if I should buy another BAA card, given the small number of days I actually spend down there, since moving back to Yorkshire, (I used to have a tributary of the Warwickshire Avon at the bottom of the garden). Then each year the arithmetic proves the B.A.A card to be well worth the investment. Ok, I may not get one as soon as they come out, as I used to. But during the summer months its rare for Her Indoors and I not to give the Severn Valley our attention for at least 6 to 10 days. That works out at most four pounds odd a day, and means any Autumn Barbel / Chub / Pike trips are free. ;D BOF

£27 (must have gone up a quid!) is fantastic value for money for the amount of Waters the book gives you access to. www.baa.uk.com/where_to_fish/default.aspxQuestion is can a tight Yorkshireman like me justify it for 4 days fishing?!

If you have Sky, Channel 252 has Matt Hayes fishing somewhere on the Severn, vitually everynight, look out for Mainstream, Total Fishing and the Great Rod Race. The Middle Severn is said to be awash with 4-7lb Barbel.

Ahh I see, misread your post, thought he was going to stop with his uncle who lived somewhere down there. If Uncle wants a house sitter while he's away, I would gladly oblige ;D Fantastic fishing round Borobridge! I recon if they head somewhere between Ironbridge and Stourport they should be onto good fishing. Regards

iknow, but uncle is a "traditional" chap, doesnt like sitting on pellet all day, still cant come to terms with the fact that he cant catch 10 barbel at cowthorpe on sausage a day!!, mind you he does use split cane rods and still has a wicker basket!

I think generally too much faith is put into the pellet (and Boilie), don't get me wrong its a bait I have used with success. But traditional methods do work, I tend to catch more on wriggly and Meaty things than anything else, tell Uncle to get his bait engine out and get a bend in his Cane! Regards

Bridgenorth to Bewdley, known as "barbel alley" is a prolific barbel producing stretch of the Severn, with plenty of 3-7lb fish, also good shoals of decent chub, roach, especially in the deeper pools. If I was to go for a couple of days,I would go to Bewdley, where you have plenty of variety in the swims,ie,shallow gravel runs, deep pools and nice easy trotting pegs. For more info, call in at Stan Lewis fishing tackle shop.Pegs above the bridge on the Kidderminster stretch are the favoured pegs for trotting, while below are fast and shallow gravel runs. We spent 4 good holidays in Bewdley before targeting the Teme in subsequent years.I can recommend the Horn and Trumpet public house as the ideal BandB,clean and comfy and friendly. www.bewdley.actinet.net/hornntrumpet/index.htm

Agree with you about fish spotting Bucket2.Me and my mate fished the Teme from 2000-2005,and found this lovely river a little gem! Only thing is you have to be part mountain goat to tackle a lot of the pegs.A BAA book is well worth £27 for a weeks fishing, giving you plenty of stretches on the Teme,Severn, Avon and other rivers and ponds, plus you can use it if you fancy a day or two later in the year. Not many pegs suitable for trotting though.
