Can't tell you much about the fishing, but Brielle is almost on the doorstep of the Europort, has a bunch of big canals to the North of the town, with HUGE cargo hauling barges, (some with cars on the roof for the Captains runabout), and in the waters that surround the old fortified island of Brielle, what looks like half the world population of sailing boats tied up. Especially near the campsite. Unfortunately my former local contact has moved to Franshoek in South Africa, dogs and all. So thats me stuffed for Dutch info for the time being. Did come across this after a quick search :- "In Hellevoetsluis near to Brielle you will find a good tackle shop. He caters for British anglers, and you will find all the paperwork and bait that you need. Around Hellevoutsluis you have many top class waters namely the Kanaal door voorne, and the Haringvliet, famous for massive bags of bream. Also you have hundreds of smaller waters for tench or carp fishing. Most of the time you will have the waters to yourself." Hope this helps. BOF

Thanks Bof, The info available seems to be very sparce other then good fishing. The fact it is so close to the port is appealing which means more time on the bank and less travelling. Got all the info for the tackle shop and permits required but good accommodation offering full board with tackle storage facilities seems to be non-existent. The technology of goggle is fascinating though: - The town is entire network of canals and the boats seem to be restricted to the inner area with the outer (I presume river) free of traffic. Not sure if this part is connected to the main river section, but just looking close in at google has given us a few ideas of where the fishing takes place (red circles LOL) We understand there is also a substantial carp lake to the south east of the town as well if the bream aren’t showing.

The boats were on the Brielsemeer*, to the Northeast of the old town. It may have been some sort of regatta, but there seemed to be hundreds of the things. *Hope thats how they spell it. Only passed the place the once, so I am sorry if its a bit vague. BOF

Lots of useful information there thanks lads. As much as the carp lake looks nice its a bit far north from Brielle. To say its so rife with english anglers these days the info does seem 'thin' on the ground. Jack Purchase have also ceased trips who were usually fairly good for information.

Right guys…. Seeing as the information is sparse I thought I would put all my findings on here in case it helps anyone else. We have decided to arrange our own travel and accommodation simply because for US is works out much cheaper than going through an agent AND we had the benefit of one of our mates visiting the town, tackle shop and accommodation prior to booking (that’s some recce.) LOL but Anglers World do seem to have some good offers and appear to be the only company who arrange trips from the Yorkshire region (perhaps I am missing a niche here eh!) Firstly let’s get you there:Well for most of us it’s going to be Hull to Rotterdam on the P&O ferries and you can get quotes and book online via their website here, watch out for the fuel surcharge as well which is only added at the very end and is around £8 per person: P&O FerriesI would recommend getting a budget ‘via the site’ but calling them directly as this can provide the opportunity of requesting ‘the cheapest’ option to suit your party and in our case the price fell by £180.00. This is because there are 4 of us going taking 2 cars and if you book online, the options are restricted so every vehicle needs a cabin that start at £100 each way (these are mandatory BTW). By discussing it with them we have managed to take all 4 passengers, 2 cars and book a single 4 berth cabin for £110.00 each way which has worked out for us at £115.00 each return (including breakfast and fuel surcharge). One more thing DON’T FORGET YOUR PASSPORT LOL Where to stay:We already had a rough idea of where we wanted to be (Brielle) so looked for accommodation in that area. The first search naturally was for ‘cheap hotel accommodation n Brielle’ which through up a few hotels and costs which for where we are staying at the Bastion hotel was around 88 euro’s per twin room per night excluding breakfast. Having gained the information take my advice and look directly for the accommodation which we found and the prices are even cheaper at 74 euro’s or 100 euro’s including breakfast which we went for. The link to the hotel can be found here: Bastion Hotel, BrielleI also took the opportunity of ringing them directly to ensure ‘the best price’ LOL but booking online rewared a small saving and was easier (they speak excellent English and are very helpful but there was still a bit of a language barrier probably due to Yorkshire terminology i.e. where can I stick my maggots LOL). The hotel cost 1200 euro’s for 2 twin rooms, including breakfast for 6 nights which roughly equates to £790.00 that can either be paid in advance or on departure although you do need a credit card to secure the rooms. So divided by 4 you’re a few pounds short of £200 each . Holland does have a small ‘tourist’ taxation that works out at about 50p per day you stay at the hotel. There are a few choices of places to stay in and around Brielle and a very useful source of information was the Brielle tourist information website which lists different types of accommodation to choose from (hotels or B&B) which you can visit here: Brielle tourist information Other places we found that may be of interest as follows: De Koeberg which offer camping or chalet accommodation Citta romana complex which offer self catering accommodation to the south I am sure there’s many more but these are just the ones we looked at. So What’s Left:I would refer you back to bof’s earlier post which has a lot of information about the rules and regulations which you must read and once your familiar, well the things still to do are acquire your, Licenses and permits which will set you back around £20 and order your bait. The bait shops seem to be able to assist you with everything here. We found details of the local shop in Brielle centre (again on the recce) and had a chat with him who was very helpful. He can be contacted for help or advise here: Knuffel & Co. Brielle, Lijnbaan 12, Brielle, 0033181414281 You can order the bait in advance but as most accommodation doesn’t have any storage facility (or only poor facilities) you can order it and collect it daily or every few days to keep it as fresh as possible. Other suppliers we found as follows: Lasebo which you will need to translate to read De Catfish a large shop in the south with a very good website and lots of information Places to fish:Still a little vague on this one as i havent actually been yet, sorry but from the bits of information we have and depending on they type of fishing you want, i.e. heavy feeder into a deep flowing river of pole fishing a canal these appear to be the hottest (or at least, most discussed) venues. Voorne Haringvliet, Spui, Lake Brielle, Lake Oostvoorne, Bernisse, Moats in Hellevoetsluis Moats in Brielle Polder waters in Hellevoetsluis A lot of the waters are tidal and very deep so I am lead to believe however, I will endeavour to provide as much information as I can where and how we fished along with the results. All in all we are looking down the barrel of around £335 each plus beer, food tokens and bait which is probably going to be around another £150-£200 which incidentally is roughly what it was costing us for a weeks trip to Ireland, so not quite as painful as we were expecting.

We are having to go middle of May due to other commitments although i would prefer to go in June as there are certain restrictions/bans in place until the end of May, no worms, no pike or perch fishing etc.. however i have also heard the the bream shoal tight in May and are easily located If your going, book the Ferry as early as possible as the price goes up daily as availabilty goes down (they dont do last minute discounts apparently ) I would avoid Fridays as its the most expensive sailing (due to weekend breaks) Saturday is nearly the same as mid week but you need less days off work

i have fished in that area and if i can dig up the info on the place and waters i will get back to you when we went we stayed in a caravan site called de koeberg i think it was called about 10kms from helvelsuius mostly bream waters and specimen carp. we fished the voorne canal and had good catches of bream on the pole and tip if you are thinking of going in may i think that is the time when a lot of english anglers go over and their are some bid matches on there with double ton up weights.i will get back to you work beckons. it only takes about 30 minutes off ferry.the tackle shop in hevelsuis is ideal and thre was a website good gear cheap groundbait and good info on the area the water around helvelsuis is pretty much a big moat and not part of the voorne canal carp fishing mainly

after looking at the said website we stayed at de goode reed and not de koeberg as was said in previous reply de koeberg is in the heart of holland not far from the german border and a good 3 1/2 hours off ferry. at de goode reed where we stayed there is a large lake right behind it that fishes well for decent sized bream we fished behind the tennis courts and although we didnt catch mega bags of fish we caught fish up to 4-6lbs you could catch big weights when we were there but it was early morning or through the night the time we went over they had a heatwave and temperatures were over 30 degrees every day.what you will find is that the waters tend to be huge. if i can find the map that was all marked out with the best spots i will try and get it to you.when we were there another group of anglers did catch big catches and with it being hard fishing they didnt give away any secrets till they where going home, fair play i was taken by one lad around all the places that he knew and we were back in an hour and an half the place names are half forgotten but are on the map. i think the nearest river is the spui and think of a swollen river trent on steroids and that was what it reminde me of with container ships overtaking each other on it,much like anywhere the fishing is quite speciallsed with beefed up gear. iwill try to find the marked up map hope this of any help

Thanks Johno Any information is appreciated We have been fortunate enough to have an OS map marked up by the lad from the local tackle shop in Brielle with several locations to try and a description of the type of fishing at each place. One place in particular ‘where the fishing is exceptional’ was 60ft deep and needs 5-6oz leads to stand a chance Not our preferred type of fishing really so we expect to be on the Voorne Canal a lot and to try the moats around Brielle which are suppose to be full of tench only I would put the map up but I don’t have a scanner big enough although I will try and get the info on here somehow

unfortunately the wife has put a stop to my overseas fishing now that is why the map was offered the voorne canal was the place we fished and we caught between 50 -100lbs most times we fished and that was in an heatwave like was said it is very popular at certain times of the year the tackle shop was spot on and although it would be wise to take brown crumb over with you the continental groundbaits were cheap and we ended up stocking up for back home.good luck get on the fish and you will really enjoy it. we stuck to the voorne canal and the zuiderdeip but visited the bernisse and the spui shown the best peg on the spui and was told that if it fishes you would have a day of a lifetime. google earth " 51 degrees .48, 17.87" n and 4 degrees . 17, 08.05" e.
