Hi All,
I am starting to think about my next holiday. I want to go to Ireland for a week next spring/summer.
I have been twice before, to Galway, and although the trout and sea fishing is good, the course fishing hasn't been fantastic.
This time I want to get soem good course fishing in, so I am looking for suggestions on which areas hold some good lakes/rivers for course fish.
Don't really mind what we are catching, but carp and tench would be nice, don't mind bream, but i prefer a bit of a fight!
Any ideas?
Cheers,
Herb

Herb
Went to ireland last year but fishing time was limited as we were travelling round. Fished a nice stretch of the Bann at Port Glenone where I had two nice bream to just short of 5lb also fished around Kescarrigan on lough Scurr for a couple of hours and had around 30 small roach and skimmers. The canal there was good for a few hours on the whip catching small roach with the odd bream to about a 1lb. As I say my fishing time was limited on account of my car being written off by someone who didn't want to wait in a line of traffic.
Would like to go back to the Bann as it was a lovely river to fish and didn't seem to be that many other anglers about.
Regards
Glenn

Hi Glenn,
is the Bann in Northern Ireland?
I've been looking around, I'm thinking of fishing the Shannon, maybe at shannonbridge.

Try Melview lodge in Longford the Shannon/Erne and numerous lakes in the area, the owner will show you around and put you onto fish.

I was on the Bann a few weeks ago mate, Newferry stretch yorksfishing.proboards4.com/index.cgi?board=outsideyorkshire&action=display&n=1&thread=5538Back there last week from Wednesday till Monday, The Bann was in flood, and hoofing it thru. Portglenone and the Newferry stretch was a complete wast of time, altho Portglenone was fishable in the slacks Coarse fishing in Ireland, very hitty missy i'm afraid to say mate, catch it right and you will bag up. But its very seldom like that now. I have visited County Cavan for a few years now, Ballyconnel, Killeshandra, Bawnboy to name a few places. Best place to fish in Cavan has to be Killykeen National Forest, bream, tench and hybrids
