Since my last visit in 2003 this fishery has had a major face lift. It now has a very well stocked tackle shop incorporated into the Cafe. They are open all day. It is a hugely popular place. I arrived bank holiday Sunday at 7 45. 15 miutes after opening time to fine the main lake packed with ovenight Bivvies. They have also added two " Chalet type accomodation " blocks at the top end of the lake right by the lakeside. In principal fine but on the day I was there not good. A group of YOBS with fishing rods had take up residence for the weekend ( they had been there since Friday and were not due out until Monday.) They had caused meyhem. The booze has flowed all day Saturday so by the evening they were well gone. All the guys Bivvied up near them suffered them all night. When I arrived they were just emerging to stumble over rods that had been left out all night unattended. The next 2 to 3 hours was spent bellowing at each other ef'ing this and ef'ing that true to Northern form. When that subsided the Video Phone appeared and the next 3 hours were spent phoning the world and bellowing down the phone. It was so loud I could hear the person on the other end swearing back it the so called fisherman. I was a good 50 yards away from the Chalets. The weather saved the day as I bounced it down and drove them indoors.
So the fishing was a disaster from the peace standpoint but I was into fish all day Bream and Roach. There is a 40 peg Match lake but it was booked so that was not available to me.
Moral....If you go ...go midweek...dont go on a bank holiday. Nevertheless there were lots of kids with their dads there and you could not fault them. There are some very big fish in the main lake sos much so the carp championships are held there.
