Im thinking of giving this place a go does anyone have any directions to find it from Doncaster or from owston ferry ??

Sorry I havent been there yet, but its on my list of places to go. As far as I can remember you go out towards Owston ferry till you cross the A161 at Graiselound crossroads. Go straight across towards Owston Ferry, for about 1/2 mile (just past where the road has a distinct kink ) and turn right . This may be sign posted West Stockwith. Just after you cross the Warping Drain, turn left towards Gunthorpe (Lincs), and Fourways should be someplace near the next crossroads, (as its the only four way crossroads in that area). If you find yourself in Gunthorpe, stop, as if you dont you may hit the Trent. ;D Good luck BOF  |

Erm, thats the wrong Gunthorpe Andrew. Thats in Nottinghamshire, the Fourways fishery near Owston Ferry is in Lincolnshire. (Note, Previous post from Andrew showing the wrong village now deleted) But thats a cracking website, I am going to add that to my favourites list. Ta! BOF |

Just had a word with John, the fishery owner, and you can relax Adie, the place is sign posted right from Graiselound. But just to be on the safe side, go as I directed above, but as you go over the bridge across the Warping Drain turn immediately left. Then after about half a mile watch out for the fishery on the left. You may see a big yellow digger on a mound of soil. The lake is open from 6.30 am till dusk by the way. (John was quite surprised as he is in Scotland on holiday ;D) BOF |

Fishing really well at the moment.Last week angler had140 lb of tench,bream,carp,roach, ide & rudd. Remember this lake is not matched up at weekends,we open 6.30am--9.30pm.

Went over too visit John at fourways with Adie1200 and his mate and son , and too see how things are progressing and boy are they. John has got two more lakes Dug out one will be opening Next week a mixed fish lake which has some more real true crucian carp all buttery gold and full of fight complimented by some Golden Rudd. he has also been lucky enough to get a visit from The E.A lads during the floods last year with some very large rather lost carp that were not used too the flow in a river and being the closest still water too the reed grates that they were getting caught against he ended up with them making a new home with him. i'll be back when it gets a little warmer and the trees have got some foliage. but even though it is a bit hard going at the mo there was plenty too look at lapwings wheeling about snipe arrowing accross the water redshrike oyster catchers lots too twitch at if you are not catching and very congenial company in John the owner. Adie has taken some photos and if i can work out how to get them on in the next couple of days i will, but they don't really do the place justice and the older it gets the better it will become regards Malc. |

;D Well i'm still unable to stick photo's on yeah i know i'm a trogludyte when it comes too anything technichal P.C wise.
Popped over Too visit John at this lovely fishery on weds and had a great time despite the weather.
I got there at nine and had a lovely chat with mine host the match scene has taken off quite well with 40lb of pristine fish regularly winning matches and pleasure catches getting close too the ton for the day.
The carp, Tench and Bream in the original lake are growing on well streightening out hooks and snapping lines the most recent carp to come out have been 12lb and 13.5lb not huge but i'd challenge you to find harder fighting fish.
The trees are coming on nicely around the original lake and are now begining to offer shelter from the elements whilst the smaller second lake is looking very mature for its age and both are fishing well, John has also dug a Third pond which he is busy deciding what to fill with, apart from water of course lol. Personally i think a predator lake would be a good idea as he already has a specimen large match lake and a smaller silver fish small match lake, i say a predator lake with big Pike ,Perch and Catfish would complete the venue quite nicely, what do other folk think?
Ok back to the days fishing the wind was blowing quite hard across the pond so i chose a corner where the trees were giving a nice bit of shelter from behind and i'd be fishing into the begining of the ripple with Moby dick my old faithful feeder rod and having a big lump of stawberry meat on a sleeper carp rod down the edge with a groundbait cage feeder on.
it started off slowly with the usual culprits i was fishing with a mustard 5lb B.S hooklength too a size 15 hook with two maggots and a blackcap feeder and i began by catching small roach and perch but i kep feeding every cast until the fish size began too improve and the baby perch got fed off .
my first better fish was an Ide of about 1lb then a bream of about the same weight it had become a bite a chuck and if you missed that bite you needed to change the maggots as they were so wragged.
The culprits ? well they were crucian carp beautiful large Golden Buttery pennies with fins ranging from 8oz too around 1.5 lb that fought like fish twice thier weight i didn't count the number i had but from about 1pm until 6.30pm i was pulling out a fish about every third cast ,yeah i know not a very good ratio and i'd not make a good match angler but it was good enough for me and with the Genial company of Dave the Bailiff and John the owner all in all it was a very nice day ,especially as i hadn't been out fishing in so long.
Nothing on the carp rod this time but i'll save that for another day i was busy enough on the feeder without that lol.
So if you have time and need a new place to try Try Fourways at Gunthorpe Regards Malc.
P.S oh and please put your comments on here re the predator lake and i'll pass them on too John Cheers.

;D popped over here again today and met up with Warden for a couple of hours he had around 25 silver fish Ide , Roach Rudd and a few hybrids using polaris float ledger tactics.
I had two nice Bream a crucian along with the Ide, Rudd and Roach i also got snapped on 6lb hooklength.
A group of people caught quite well on pole with pellet and white maggot one lad ended up with an 11lb leather carp along with a good mixed net weighing in at around 15lb.
All in all a pretty good day, i've got some more pictures and i'll try to get them on site yet again.

;D Well had a very very busy day today out here nothing big but boy was it hectic.
grabbed some maggots from parkgate angling and a little cage feeder the maggots from them are really nice and jiucy and were much to the roach, Ide, skimmers perch and rudds liking, the cage feeder will need a warmer day.
i started off at 08.30am with one carp rod our with a pineapple wrap and some fishmeal groundbait mixed with bill oddies meal worm crumble bird food, but nada nothing not a sausage.
on the tfgear i was using the 1.25 tc top and my slim polaris with the cage feeder and then a blackcap when nothing happened on that. After 1.5 hours of no bites nothing i thought a change was called for.
the sun was shining the skylarks were singing up a storm a flock of small birds kept up an on and off aerobatic display above the adjacent marsh and although it was very pleasent watching this and listening i wasn't catching any fish and just burning my face with the reflection of the sun off the water.
John arrived and we had a bit of a natter about the new pond his new website that is being built for him and the hopes for the coming summer season,oh he also informed me his original carp are coming on in leaps and bounds reaching weights of 15lb and thats not including the asylum seekers from the floods which were heading toward the 20lb mark when they were saved from the drain nearby.
So after i'd settled back down i went onto my nice new puddle chucker a size 18 mustard to 4lb 8oz at a depth of 6ft and from 11.30 am until 18.30pm every cast i had a bite and for every three bites i caught a fish well i say a fish a little loosely lol the roach were all around 3-4 oz with the odd ide too 1.5 lb and the odd skimmer of 1lb and a nice Rudd with fantastic ruby red fins.
so you mathematically minded can work out how many fish and what weight i ended up with , but i tell you my casting shoulder dunt arf ache lol.
and what a fantastic sunset the deep reds set the whole lake afire with rippling liquid flame waves glowing burnt umber reeds and the silence very rarely experienced in ths rush and hussle day and age.
i will be a regular here no doubt. best regards Malc.

Match record broken today 80-7 on bomb and pole in margins using 10mm pellet. new roadside lake now open contains smaller fish,ideal for beginners, children and anyone who enjoys silver fish. Crucians showing well in fiedside lake. Just for Malc, "The sun has got his hat on"

;D Well what can i say i've just had a brill day out here again , had a Private message from George so of course i said yes even though it was my 27th wedding anniversary and i should have been home organising a nice meal or somthing i wasn't completely heartless i did raise a glass of diet coke to my sweet lady , aah well we'll have a good weekend to make up for it lol. so i had a late start so didn't manage to get there until 11.00am but managed to get set up by 11.30am with one carp rod set up with carpes ready mixed ground bait with a touch of molaces added 15lb main line a spring type method feeder and a size 14 to 8lb hook length two pieces of corn hair rigged and another piece actually on the hook. On the tfg 2oz tip 8lb main line cage feeder with ready made lake groundbait with a few casters in to a size 18 preston to 4lb, well to begin with anyway . more in a bit i need the loo lol  ;D |

Right back now the first fish for us came to Georges mate a nice carp of about 8lb then George had a nice bream of about 4lb. and my fist fish what a smashing 10lb 1 oz carp photographed by George hopefully I'll be able to put it on later and then for the next hour and a half it was a bite every half hour resulting in a bream of 5lb 5oz in the net then a 3lb bream and then another bream of about 1lb all on the carp rod set up. In the mean time on the Tfg i had only had a few small perch and roach but nothing exciting , but i noticed that the casters in the groundbait were coming to the surface and some type of pretty decent fish were taking them so i chucked a few loose into the water and it was like boiling a kettle, but i couldn't tell what they were i called George over and he suggested a small bubble float and fish caster on the surface it was real fun as George put it we threw some casters in and it was like a shoal of piranhas on a pig lol the float bounced around but they wouldn't take it , our blood pressure went up ten points but we still didn't know what fish they were so we lengthened the distance between bubble and caster and chucked some more casters in and again the water boiled  so in went the bubble wind back stop wait ........ and this time the float sales away yes we are into something half decent which turns out to be a nice ide to around 1.5 lb, un hook another caster bob bob but no take grrrr blood pressure up again ok reel in chuck more casters in lets try two on the hook George urges 2 it is and whoosh of the bubble sales again this time a fin perfect Rudd of about 8 oz and the same again either a decent Rudd or an even more decent ide graced the net so we had solved the mystery of the fourways piranhas lol . Idid have two more missed runs on the carp rod mainly because i was busy with the silvers when the alarm screamed into life and then i caught what i feel must be a gold fish it looked quite crucian like but it had an absolutely huge tale like a fan tail but it was about 2lb in weight as i say all in all a brill day , it was great catching up with George and John and terrific fun on the water now in its summer colours it is getting nice and sheltered by the trees and the reeds are making some nice features to fish too with pole or BUBBLE FLOAT ;D  |

Well what a difference a season can make after my last fun filled trip out to see John , i thought i'd take my 11 year old nephew out to get him into the art of casting and to try and get him a bigger fish than we had at Elmtree. I'd been given by my daughter a couple of short telescopic rods so i tackled one of these with a small reel a puddle chucker float a size 18 maggot carp hook coloured red 3lb bs. right finger on line arm over draw back and flick wind up lift keep an eye on what your bait is doing oops yep you've caught your jumper right you try it finger on line arm over rod back and ...... flick ,what a grin yes uncle Malc i did it can i do it again, well shall we wait a bit just to see if there is a fish out there ok. 3 seconds later can i cast it again no i say just wind it up a little so two winds 2 seconds can i cast it again lol ok remember wind in lift oops you are hooked in the reeds remember to watch what the hook is doing right then finger on line arm over rod back flick oops you let go to quickly. I don't like this casting thing you did ok the first time try again Ok yeah done it , why haven't i had a bite yet where are the fish. Give it awhile have patience. I have been patient i've cast three times and still not got a fish. why do kids have to have everything now immediately right this minute is it because of computers and ready meals microwave ovens, i don't remember wanting everything NOW i knew you had to wait hey ho i guess i'm just getting old. Anyway he then wanted a break for lunch so i carried on casting with the little rod chucking in a few feed pellets and maggots until i finally got a bite i let the lads back into the seat to land it and then he had another cast on his own and the float dipped and he had his first self caught roach, now i'd have been over the moon and infact i still remember the first fish i ever caught, but i guess my age is showing again as he got the huff because the next three casts didn't result in a fish each cast  . it was pretty cold and the fish we had had out were extremely cold and lethargic, so it wasn't really suprising that we hadn't had much luck. John popped back with some fantasic prezzies though of fishing books he'd been given by a regular so that bucked the lad up well anything thats free  thank you everso much john i hope he reads them. and then it was back to cast wait reel in cast wait then Uncle Malc when are we going can i have another sausage roll can i have a packet of crisps can i have another drink , but at least i kept my temper no shouting no thick ears un-like when i was a lad my father would have given me a real belting if i'd carried on like that. we did get a few more bites and a couple of small perch which he thought were very pretty although he wasn't keen on the prickly bits . Then it was time for the off i'll have to get a wamer venue next time with some more responsive fish or am i just a glutton for punishment we'll see best regards Malc. |
