here is the world famous Donald 'The Don' Macrae in action at Messingham sands Saturday, I was lucky enough to snap him hooking into one of the resident carp

Well for this place it started off a little slow...meaning that we were only catching silver fish one a chuck, hardly any carp showing early on to the method, it was apparent that the carp were having a day off from bottom feeding,as hardly anyone was getting them.A quick change to floating bread(Don forgot the presoaked mixers he had prepared! ) soon saw a few carp come to the net, but as you all know surface fishing is a bit of a lottery at best, we both managed a good few fish, My best about six pound and Don's best slightly heavier, but not much, next Peg down to Don saw a 12 lb common fall to floating chum mixer, the weather was a bit hit and miss early doors with a blustery wind coming on and off, the ripple on the water made surface fishing particularly hard, although the best fish came from a piece of bread floating in the margins not more than 2ft out, I tried all sorts as hook bait on the method, large lumps of meat being taken by skimmers(the greed devils) and so didn't persevere with it too long. I cannot say for sure the final weight of the catch not as good as previous weeks, but, we did catch a fish a chuck all day despite the reluctant carp, once again a bit of a trek to get there but well worth it...now £5 per day from £4 but that didn't detract from the days sport too much!
