They must have seen sense then! Thank god. Bloody canoeists.
The below was the gist. I have edited out the Reg but have it.
"I may have come to your attention that one or two fishermen in England and Wales get a little confrontational with us boaters. In the town of Richmond, North Yorkshire, we have such an example. The gentleman in question drives a small, dark blue van Reg ****. He has harrassed, verbally abused and photographed canoeist and kayakers getting out of the river at the usual get out at the Falls Car Park. PLEASE REPORT ANY INCIDENT OF THIS MAN CONFRONTING YOU TO THE POLICE. DO NOT ENGAGE HIM IN CONVERSATION. If he tells you he is a "baliff", please do ask him to prove it.
The police are building a case against him. The incident number you need to quote when discussing this with North Yorkshire Police is *********.
Please do not be put off paddling the River Swale, but do make sure it has enough water in it to do so!"

Do you have any other information about this? What's he supposed to be doing exactly? I only live 5 minutes from Richmond and why not ask him to prove he's a bailiff?

Fishermen and Canoeists usually = trouble. I used to fish all Richmond AC matches and I recall one day back in about 1988/89 when a mate of mine (I won't name him because he may read this site!!) drew a peg right on Station Bend as it is known. Its the first decent peg below the Falls. Anyway he started catching a few decent fish, and the barbel had started to respond, after about 2 hours a canoeist went right through his swim, followed by 2 or 3 others. Now this chap had a short fuse at the best of times but as you can imagine, he blew his stack. He exchanged a few heated words with one of the canoeists and the result was that he threw his rod down, flew into the water and grabed the canoeist and proceeded to pummel him senseless. He was later charged with assault, as you can imagine. I am not condoning his behaviour but in a match situation, where you have paid good money not only for bait but for sweep/pools as well, and you draw a good peg with quality fish at your feet, which someone then ruins, I think I would be angry as well. I wonder if this acquaintance of mine drives a blue van and still frequents the Falls area.... ? One thing I do know is that this problem will not go away. I don't like the idea of canoeists going through my swim, maybe they don't like me either!!??
