Hi i have been using a margin pole last couple of years and now wish to purchase a longer pole but am unsure if 13m would be fine or if i need longer? I fish mostly commercials but some snake lakes etc are wider then 13m(if i want to reach far bank). The issue is price having not a massive amount to spend (£450ish) which limits what my options are for a pole that is well balanced and a responsive tip. Be interested to hear of anyones feelings or advice on this matter. Ps. Having felt a few poles i am currently considering map tks 101 at 13m but concerned i may buy it and then regret not buying longer. I only fish one match a year and this is just a social event so mainly pleasure sessions for usage.

Having felt a few poles i am currently considering map tks 101 at 13m but concerned i may buy it and then regret not buying longer. I only fish one match a year and this is just a social event so mainly pleasure sessions for usage. I bought a Drennan DS7 pole not too long ago, usually about £600 and got it for just over £350 which was a bargain for a 14.5m pole. Came with loads accessories and top kits. As a pleasure angler only I didn't want to spend loads. Its a joy to use, reasonably light, strong and well balanced. I'm sure if you look about Ted Carter, etc prob still do them cheaper than most. I believe I got mine from Fishing Republic. Not sure if they still do them. Its a 2017 model I think. Alternatively I also have a Middy XT15-2 and that is fantastic, very light weight, strong and should be below your budget at 13m. I think I got mine from Fosters, for less than £200 at 11.5m, x3 tops kits and holdall etc. I then bought extension to take to 13m separately for about £70. What I would say is buy the Pole that is most suited to the venues you fish. On the lakes I fish, I'm fishing for big Tench and carp, so the Poles I bought reflect that. In addition the most I usually fish is 13m. I literally only have the extra length on one of my Drennan purely because I grabbed it at bargain price and it is better quality than what I could have got for same money for shorter pole. I would add that I also went in to the tackle shops and held both poles before I purchased so that I knew what I was getting.

Shimano beastmaster 16m pole is good one. Yeah weighs alot at full length but u get plenty of top kits and that. And if u fish 13m then u have the other two sections if need be. I been looking at the map ones but still unsure on them as can squeeze the sections but I been told they are strong. Alot of people are buying map and they are decent and come with excellent spare package

I think the point off the sections been a bit flexible makes them stronger , not as brittle as other poles if u know what i mean , i never had issues with my 501 and i am heavy handed ,

Yeah that's prob why. Kieran old pole which was a garbolino had spongy sections but was very strong

Hi thanks for all the replies and appreciate the comments. I mostly fish for silvers and carp (usually not double figure fish) and was worried if people had bought 13m and then wished they had bought longer. I mentioned the map as that was one of the ones i liked when tested in tackle shop but their stock of made up poles didnt have much choice at my lower end of the price bracket (will try out other poles as i look at deals).I am open to other brands though. I had considered second hand but am a little concerned as most poles appear to have been repaired and dont fancy the risk.

Lol need to fish with it first. I tend to get a pole each year with my bonus hence why don't keep them long.

Plus got a really good deal with the pole as well. From selling the garbolino pole I get 60 pounds in my back pocket lol

I pored over the internet and tackle catalogues for a long time before i bought my present pole. My other pole is 16mt. but then one day I sat and tried to work out how many times I used the last section - not often - so I ended up with a 14.5mt. which covers most of my needs and if I am fishing an open water venue I use a couple of small wagglers on a rod. I use a Sensas pole but even though it suits me you have the right idea going around and waggling different makes.

I agree with suggsy, get a good second pole. For most 14.5 metres is more than enough. I have a margin and 16 metre pole but most places I just use my margin pole, then use waggles or feeder.

Hi many thanks again for all your comments and info i appreciate you all taking time to provide advice. I think i am probably now going to ensure whatever pole i buy is at least 14.5m as then it is unlikely i will regret buying longer, might mean i have to wait a while until i can afford a decent one but cant see me getting out much whilst the beast from the east is here anyway (thats the weather not the mother in law). Will check out second hand deals but still a bit wary on condition. Many thanks again

Ha ha looking at the price of the pole you just bought i assumed you were joking and whatever you were selling would still be out of my price range. If you are selling a pole i may be interested but can you let me know more please.
