Hi, Just joined , after retiring last year I spent some very enjoyable practice sessions for the Social matches with a fine bunch of Gents ( wicked banter though !) Located near Pontefract and enjoy all forms of fishing but having been brought (some would say dragged ) up visiting the Trent etc in the 70's, still love float fishing above all. Looking forward to reading views, ideas and hopefully chipping in when I can.

Hi Gary. Welcome to the Forum Social Matches. The first rule of the matches is: you must talk about the matches. The second rule of the Social match is: you MUST talk about the Social Matches! (They call it "banter") Third rule of Social Matches is when Warden yells "stop!", goes limp, taps out, the match is over. Fourth rule: only twenty guys to a match. Fifth rule: one match at a time, fellas. Sixth rule: No shirts, no shoes. Seventh rule: matches will go on as long as they have to. And the eighth and final rule: if this is your first time at the Social Match you have to streak round the lake butt naked before the " all in".

Welcome - Nothing to add, I think Rich has covered everything. Rule 8 though, If you can't run around the lake a brisk walk will do (though running is advisable at this time of year). Good Luck you will need it fishing with our gang of reprobates !!!

Thank you all for your kind welcome - I was fine with it up to the point of running butt naked around the venue. I'm not sure that any of you are quite ready for that. do you carry a de-fibrilator on these matches? should I brush up my first responder skills ? Mad as a box of frogs !!

Hi, I would take the box of frog's with you to the next match, just in case there are no fish in the net, then you can say you didn't blank, like some of us do, lol
welcome to the site, hope to see you at the matches.

Thanks Greggy,
hope we don't see too many blanks this year but experience tells me .................... . I'm liking the Froggy plan B approach - Do you think warden would notice if I weighed in Green fish with legs ? I could blame pollution and hormones in the water !
