Anyone pike fished it at all? Regular visitor to the Lakes but always as a fellwalker previously - very rarely seen anybody fishing. Other than a snippet on a Matt Hayes programme some time back not familiar with any other info Not much on youtube either Boat hire not cheap - tho a couple of hours lure fishing would probably be as much as would be comfortable in winter. Northern section froze solid a few winters ago The islands off the Keswick landings look interesting I must admit

Hi mate, yeah fished it a few times, and I must say it's my fav water up there to fish for pike on. My old man has an inflatable canoe, and from spending a bit of time out on the water I can tell you that it isn't deep at all. Not compared to the other waters up there. If I were you I'd sack off the boat and take the single spin rod and light outfit and cover the west and south shores of the water. Between us we've had more sucess that way than on the boat. You get tickets from one of the garages in Keswick, but I forget which one. Think it says online somewhere.

Thanks Joe. Yeah I've heard its pretty shallow compared to Windermere. Interesting that you've had more success fishing the southern and western shores - plenty of good access there if I can stop the dog diving in and ruining the swims . Bit lacking in features to cast to tho which is why I was thinking a boat would be good at the north end where the shore access is limited and its quieter Probably give both methods a try - specially if I can borrow a sounder

Yeah you can just about see bottom from most parts of the water from a boat. Good way to scan the entire lake though I guess.
Yeah, I only say that though as I've not fished from the Keswick shore. The best we've found is south west, not the far south bay, but a bit higher up by the woods near 'Fellside Cottage'. There are loads of hidden nabs and bays. Most of them are straight into deep water as well.

Cheers Joe - sounds good. I'll have to try and track down a map of the lake with some depth contours before I'm up there in the early spring if there is such a thing. A non-angling friend suggests trolling from the back of the launches as they circuit the lake Somehow I think that would be frowned upon!!
