I haven't fished the Larford length on the Severn itself, but I have fished that area, just a bit downstream, but lordy who goes to that area between Stourport and Astley Burf regularly may be along shortly, and be able to give you a few tips. Good luck BOF

Thanks Bert I think your best bet would be to fish off the island by the weir,as you cannot fish the weirpool on the Larford side because of private housing. The river will be well down with the latest dry weather,so the weirpool and below the lock woulbe the pegs I would fish. There are chub, barbel and a good assortment of silvers there. The stretch behind Larford lakes I haver never fished but does look inviting with plenty of far bank cover. We rent a flat on the river at Astley Burf about half a mile below Larford.Been going there for 5 or 6 years now and always have a good bag of barbel,up to 90 between two of us in a week, average weight about 5-6 pounds.Biggest 10lb 110z,but quite a few 8-9 lbers.Halibut pellets, garlic spam ,fishy boilies ,they all work. The bottom pegs on Larford stretch go to within 2-300 yards of Astley Burf, but the pub at Astley Burf,The Hampstall Inn do day tickets £5,plus a good eating place.Hope this helps. Ricky

Cheers guys, nice fishing there Ricky i think ill stick with the larford stretch (i can see a few feeders hanging from the far bank cover by the end of the week) I was thinking about using a feeder with meat in and a 12mm piece on the hook. Would this be a good idea with the water being so low and clear?

Would this be a good idea with the water being so low and clear? Theres a few deeper holes on the Larford stretch,so the local lads told me.They say there are quite a few 5lb plus chub in there, and bread flake was their favourite bait.Meat should be OK though, chance of chub or barbel. When we go down there,I usually bait band meat, pellets, boilies to avoid the chub, but still get the odd one.I use a yard long hook length for barbel, and 12-18ins for chub when putting meat direct on the hook.Hope get a few, good luck,Ricky
