As the title says. Do you think it's possible to be a good match fisherman without using a pole? I'm getting into match fishing slowly but never tried pole fishing always preferred waggler/feeder, is it something i need to learn?

Yes but only on certain venues most of the matches fished at Westwood are won by the wagler scroll down the page to the over 60's match they first five fished the wagler as I said certain venues yes most probably not Westwood

It all depends on where you are intending doing your match fishing, and how seriously you want to become involved in the sport. If you want to fish such things as open matches on commercials a pole will be an essential part of your kit, as if fish are in range of your pole you will (almost) always catch more fish using it (once you have learned how to fish / feed with it effectively) than you will with any other method. However if you are only fishing matches at your own club waters (or fishing matches on rivers) you should be able to manage without one providing of course everyone else is not using them! I avoided pole fishing for many years, but having got used to using one, it is now my preferred "first choice" method for almost any match venue. If you do go down the pole route, try them out in the shop and buy the best one you can afford, as otherwise if you do get "hooked" on pole fishing you will soon want to upgrade!
