Hi guys hope you are all well. Could anyone tell me where I could go to catch some chub, I'm in Doncaster and don't mind travelling a reasonable distance, I went to the Chesterfiels canal at retford one day last week but only caught a few small perch. I have been fishing some years now but don't really now how to get to the good place's. Any suggestions and directions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Andy.

Hi there, welcome to the forum I know the river idle holds some good chub and the river don is always a good bet too once the season starts. Never fished either myself being from wakefield but I'm sure someone on here will be able to point you towards which streches etc. Have a look in the rivers section, you'll find plenty of info there

Hi, I'm new too been fishing for 3 years now, with limited success. Based in Rotherham, I don't normally go far to fish, as I'm still learning loads every time I go fishing. Not sure what a "decent" size is for a chub, but mojo is right there are Chub in the Don for sure. If I wanted to try and catch a Chub I'd head for the river. Best I managed last year was 4lb 12 with a few others not far behind, which I guess is respectable if not particularly big, as a noob I am well pleased with them To be honest I've taken to fishing the Don rather than going to ponds, as you never know when you cast out what will be the next fish in. I've hooked into what have felt like monsters at times on the river,(yeah yeah old car tyres floating down etc...) but never landed one as the line normally gives up. Maybe this year when the river opens again i'll get something good
