Me and a mate went up to Whitby on Saturday for a days fishing on the Mistress charter boat, (being previously called off in Feb due to the 50-60mph winds!) Up at 3.30am to set off for 4.30, we were tired to say the least, but we soon woke up. It turned out to be a cracking day, weather-wise, although the fishing was proper slow due to it being still and sunny. We set off at 7 from Whitby harbour and headed up towards Sandsend Cliffs. The first fish was an under-sized ling caught by one of the lads on the back of the boat. Followed by a couple of cod and pouting. It really died off around noon for a couple of hours but picked up massively towards late afternoon. Most people on the boat came home with at least a couple of codling. Some of them around 4-4.5lb, so no monsters but fish all the same. We came back in at half 4, and me and my mate decided to fish off the West Pier for a couple of hours into dark. We pulled out a load of whiting, most under-size like but was a good way to end the day. The biggest one I had was 30cm.
Anyway, here are the two codling I brought back.
Cheers, Joe
