Hi all I'm getting back into a hobby of mine I used to enjoy as a kid and have just brought a load of tackle and looking forward to getting on the bank again. I live in york north yorkshire and wondered if anybody could give me any ideas of good places to fish. I've heard brafferton ponds is good and hoping to get onto the swale for chubby and barbel in the next few weeks. As I haven't fished for a few years now I wanna start catching some nice specimen fish or and whatever else I can tempt. Look forward to any info or tips. Simon

Thanks for the tip ill check next week to see how you got on at brafferton, I haven't fished here before as I'm originally from surrey in the south east and can't wait to get on the bank. A friend of mine mentioned this evening that there's a place to fish at monks cross near asda. I'm guessing it's near the roundabout as I've seen cars parked on the side of the road but don't have a clue. I'm looking online and found a place called the willows has anybody fished it that can pass on some info. I'd like to fish a few places and also rivers as well to attempt to land my first ever barbel. As for brafferton ill have a few days there soon. Thanks for the reply and info Jimmy Simon

Lol what a duggie that's not one I've heard before. Ive been having a look online today at fisheries around the york area and there's a few to try out this year but from what I've been told brafferton and poolbridge are the first ones on my list and also might try the ouse to see what that holds

Pool bride is good Carp lake you want on Small guru method feeder with 2 mm micro pellet and 6mm hook banded pellet works well Better stamp of fish in carp lake go nicely 10lb and then some do not ignore margins Best I had out was around 120lb a carp in 14 fish Pool bridge Oaks Braffetton Very good waters round there But use the tip always Leave pole in garden Holding plants up Leave buzzers and alarms to the noddys that don't know there place

No lol far from it I am a hardcore carper lol But when I have a hard time behind the big carp guns, I go fish match style feeder tippy at commercials where they belong 3-4 rods on commercials is daft no need for it,, It's like putting a 9 inch nail in the wall to hang a small photo you just don't do it lol Fished right a commercial should rod and build your swim up taking fish form 3/4 different spots,,, Then drop onto margins on a evening,,,,, I laugh at the lads that turn up to brafferton and fish 4 rods from an 8 ft peg lol There's only 1 commercial hayfield at Doncaster you can get away with buzz bars that's becaus me the carp can and do hit 20s

Been on the web, spoilt for choice with fisheries around the york area. Getting my utility room finished next week which has had kitchen units and work top installed and picking up a fridge very soon for my baits as I used to like to freeze my baits and homemade ground baits. If anyone is strapped for cash or wanna save money freecycle is a great place for freebies. You can place a wanted ad which I have done for a fridge freezer, ok it won't be the prettiest looking thing but if it works its great for keeping your homemade and livebaits fresh without putting it in your food fridge and also if you prefer to mash up something to add to a groundbait a blender is really handy and very quick. I used to mash up luncheon meat in my mum's yrs ago and mix it with some hemp seed and at some places was deadly for carp. Freecycle is free to register and is completely free of charge to use. Check it out, it's ideal for anybody who does not want to spend money on appliances etc hope somebody finds it useful and like to share any views and ideas with people. Regards Simon.
