Hello all, new to this board, a carp angler since the mid eighties and a keen match angler before that.
I've surfed the board for a while like you do and decided to give it a go.
Hopefully, you'll help me get over my enormous disillusionment (is that a word) with the carp scene or help point me in the right direction when I sell all my gear and start match / pleasure fishing again.
Cheers, Tony

Welcome to the site If you are disillusioned with the carp scene there is a great bunch of lads on here that will point you in the right direction and maybe give you some tips and help if it's required.

Welcome to the site Tony! If your carp angler from way back I can imagine you could become disillusioned if you compare it with today's carp anglers. Do what I do. Fish it the way you want, find a quiet venue and enjoy yourself

Thanks for the messages- much appreciated.
I think my disillusionment (still don't know if that's a real word) comes from a few things, some I could change, some I can't and they're all my perception so might not bug some of you as much-
* the fact that there are so few "nice" venues and the seemingly massive influx of people into the sport crowding them, having to book a swim three weeks in advance. Apparently 80% of new anglers go straight into carp fishing (!) * the brainlessness and ill manners of so many "carp anglers"- casting into your swim, being drunk on the bank, making a racket etc * stupid trends which add no value at all- COG leads, Nashs 10' rods, folded reel handles, 50mm butt rings etc etc etc Does anyone think for themselves anymore? * people who've been fishing in Yorkshire for a year moaning that their "PB" is only 19lb etc
There are more, but the over riding feeling is, I don't want to go. I keep hoping that might change but the evidence suggests not
I have busy job and a busy personal life, both of which I'm happy about, but I go carp fishing because I enjoy it. Or at least I used to.
I long for the days when I could turn up at a venue becasue I fancied going the day before, two or three other anglers on the lake who'd politely come over and talk to you without standing next to the margin where you had a bait and when catching a carp of any size was recognised as an achievement.
More and more I'm drawn to what used to be termed "pleasure fishing". There are hundreds of venues within half an hours drive- rivers, canals, small ponds, huge lakes all full of all sorts of coarse fish. Many of the banks are half empty and none of the fish have names.
I'm sure many will think I've got nothing to moan about and that I should not get so "het up" about such things. You're probably right, but the fact is, I don't enjoy something I used to love and it might be time for a change.
Cheers, Tony

Ah yes that is something to moan about and all too familiar nowadays! The right venues are getting hard to find because if the fishing is to easy the noddies take over! Only choice is either a hard venue or a hidden gem no one knows about. Where do you live Tony?

Even finding a hidden gem still means being restricted to one place. I've done that most of this past season
I live in Pontefract mate, on the crossroads of the M62 and the A1, so the world is my mollusc.
Perhaps I'm having yet another mid life crisis? Perhaps it's just time for a change? After all, I imagine that the thrill of angling is the same whether you fish for carp, trout, on canals for skimmers or in the sea for cod.
