I ventured down south last week to meet up with a mate of mine for a spot of fishing, he was travelling from Ipswich and I was travelling from Huddersfield.
We decided to fish somewhere that was equal distance(roughly)for us both and Linear ticked all the boxes, Good head of fish, decent price, and a chance of a lump or two....including Tench, which my mate Paul was targeting.
I was up and away early with the car filled to the roof Sunday morning, and after covering the 188 mile journey, I pulled through the gates in Hardwick Village at just before 10am, I was met with the great sight of lots of people leaving....I had been warned that this place is mega busy, but hoped that doing a 72 hour session starting on a sunday, with everyone going back to work, would be in my favour.
We headed towards the Smiths/Hardwick lake, as my mate Paul wanted to target the Tench that go upto 12lb, I was quite happy to do a session on a lake with carp up to mid 40's in.
The conditions were spot on and Although the wind was a north westerly, it was a warm wind and was blowing straight into summer bay, and on speaking to the lads who were in pg 10 and 11, found out they'd had 6 runs and landed 4 carp.
Our choice was made after we completed a lap, pegs 10 and 11, social swims, with a wind blowing in there and they'd already produced fish, in fact the only other swims that had produced fish were peg 34 and 38.
I chose to fish peg 10, towards peg nine, and Paul peg 11 towards peg 12.
the view from peg 10 down towards the conveyer bank
There were fish rolling and topping all over summer bay, and a bite looked on the cards, my rigs consisted of a chod rig on one rod, with a CC moore xxx pop up, and the other rod was an inline drop off lead system in a pva bag full of mixed pellets and a mainline new grange dumbbell on the hair, there was quite a lot of weed present, silk, canadian and streamer weed, so the rigs were chosen so that i could fish effectively, without even getting the marker rod out.
The first fish came to the chod on monday morning and was a 12lb stockie
Excellent, we're off the mark, and we can start to enjoy the session now.
24 hours passed before I had another take, and I was contemplating a move, even though the fish were still showing in the bay.
2nd fish 14lb again to the chod, time to swop the other rod over slight change of tactic too, I started firing a few boilies all over the bay, to get em grubbing around
I'm not bothered what size they are when they look like this.
3rd fish a little 10lb'er that fought like a tiger
4th fish...a bit bigger 17lb 10oz
5th fish the only fish to get caught in darkness, 20lb 2oz, the rigs and tactics working a treat.
Tuesday morning
6th fish a new pb common for me 22lb 4oz
7th fish another little stockie that gave a good account of itself 12lb, again a really pretty fish with some fantastic scales
Wednesday morning came round too fast, and it was time to start thinking about packing up, ready to set off home around lunchtime, there was still time for another bite or two.....
8th fish 13lb, there sure is gonna be some stunning fish in the years to come.
9th fish, all the gear packed away, just the rods left in... 19lb 8oz
So that was it ! final scores on the doors.....9 takes, 9 fish landed including 2 x 20's, to say i was happy is an understatement ! My mate Paul had 5 carp up to 18lb, not a tench in sight, which is strange, cos i seem to catch tinca's when i fish for carp
I can definitely recommend Linear as a place to visit, quality fishing, secure car parking and decent facilities
Next challenge....A1 pits on friday night for 48 hours.....I'll let you know how i get on.....
