hi just to let you know i fished near immingham on the humber (20/11/06). caught plenty of whitting at range with black lug on a penal rig, nothing smaller than 1lb and largest just over 2lbs. had 2 codling on full squid on penal rig but lost them on rocks whilst trying to lift them up the wall. rod got pulled off tripod twice but no fish attached to hooks, could have been some rubbish in water as it was a strong tide. DONT CAST OVER 150yds AS YOU WILL LOOSE YOUR GEAR ON A CLAY LEDGE. a local told me that there was a ledge there after i lost 3 sets of gear (cheers pal). fishing should be better this week as tides are dropping . if you want the best spots get there early as it gets full quickly(i went 4 hours before high and there was lots of locals already there)

Thanks for that Gordo. At least you know about that clay ledge now. But I bet the fish are holding right at the foot of it ! BOF

Why not do what the Carp lads do, and tie a piece of braid, cotton, or put electrical tape over the line, at just short of the mark? Quite how you gauge that, is perhaps down to loosing a bit of end tackle. BOF
