This post is a bit delayed, as i've been seriously busy working on my house.
On the 2nd of September, myself and 5 mates headed to Liverpool airport to the fly off to Barcelona, we would then be collected and transfered to the sleepy town of Mequinenza.
On arrival in Mequinenza, we were dropped off at our apartment, and decided to take a look around, and grab a couple of beers .... well you gotta start as you mean to go on !
One thing that took me back was the sheer size of the river....it is vast !
On monday morning we were up at 6, collected and taken down to spot that the guide had chosen for us, at this stage we were actually informed that we'd be fishing the river Segre, rather than the Ebro...
There we were taught how to set the rods up and how to bait the rigs and given a talk on do's and dont's etc.
The wait began.................
The baited were rowed out by the guides, to a distance of about 100 meters, with a good handful of 20mm halibut pellets thrown directly over the hookbait, in around 15 feet of water.
The whole day passed without much happening and it was looking like the first day of our holiday might end in a blank...then at 11.30pm, one of my rods ripped off....
I grabbed the rod, wound down and hit it !....I could not believe the power of the fish attatched ! it pulled so hard, nearly pulling me off my feet.
After what felt like an arm aching eternity...she was mine ! the first of our groups target.
The scales settled on 128lb....I was well chuffed to say the least !
As is the tradition for any fish caught over 100lb....
I got royally soaked !! brilliant LOL
The following day we moved to fish the Ebro, as one of the other groups had had far more success than us, catching i think about 6 fish the first day.
All the lads in our group preffered this spot as it was far more picturesque
Again fishing at least a 100 meters out, in 30 feet of water.
It was obvious there were more fish here, as the action was almost instant, with Kev landing a 160lb beast at lunchtime, I don't have a picture for some reason ?
Then Paul had this 55lb
Followed by Dan and a 54lb
And Steve with a 52lb
The next day lee was in, early doors, and had a 182lb brute
I caught next, resulting in a 142lber...happy days, pictures on someone elses camera though.
The action continued throught the week, a couple of fish a day, smallest 40lb largest 182lb, total fish caught 14.
This was a very different trip to my usual trip to france....bivvied up ;D
Pauls mandatory soaking with a 152lber
Steve bending into a 106lber
Dan getting drenched with another 106lber
My last fish was this 80lber
All in all, a fantastic trip, with a great bunch of lads, we had a right laugh !!
Anyone interested in catching some of these magnificent creatures check these guys out www.catmastertours.com/ the guides, John and Ryan could not do enough for you, they were great down to earth guys, who did everything they could to help you catch.
