Got a weekend book for 7 of us down on Dayton res anybody been just want a few tips ie what bait and what rigs ect just fancy a few tips so I have a weekend to remember Matty Whn you going if its the off the A361 at Daventry you wont need two rods for a start...look to get about 10lb carp every 15/30mins then ...stick to a PVA bag of stik mix and maggots and a simple boilie... its that well stocked you will get fed up...

Any half decent rig will work, just use the one you are most confident with. We went down with similar numbers, each of us used a different set up, and all of us caught. Ditto which bait you want to use, Pellet, Corn, any fish meal boilie, Prawns, Meat, Maggots, etc etc etc. But do take a lot of pellets, and be prepared to use all of them, either on a method rig or via PVA net bags. With water levels down, as they have been, the bivvying up problems are greatly eased, (there are only a few pegs that have sufficient space to get a bivvy onto dry land when the water level is up to normal). Do NOT leave your rods untended, even for a second, and always make sure that any baitrunner device is engaged as the takes are usually screamers. A moments inattention whilst you are sorting out a tangled rig, or rebaiting, and your second rod probably wont be there when you turn round, (as Paul and Sam from our lot will tell you). Ignore this bit of advice at your peril! BOF

About 10 years ago during my match fishing days I too had a weekend at Drayton.
What worked a treat for me was this.
10 tins of Koshida cat food pushed through a large riddle, add fishmeal to bind it into a golf ball size consistanty of heavy thick porridge.
Tackle was a a browning drag n net pole with 20 laggy to a plastic pole float fixed with rubbers.
Depth on the boards was around 2 1/2 to 3 feet . Use the biggest hook you can and put on 2 pieces of koshida cat food.
feed cat meat porridge every ten minutes or after every fish. Once it hits the water it will explode and fall to the botton. You dont want it in a lump.
Place float and hook baits 18 inches from boards. when you get a bit hit hard and get fish away from boards.
The fish swim under the boards. Please do not forget this.
26 carp for 297lb as you can see it worked for me.
Do the same if the water level is down and fish straight out in front of you.
Trust me this method does work at Dryaton.
Although I havent fished there since it is not my scene now and will never do this again.

Thanks for advice lads just fancy see what all the fuss is about. we are thinking of buying pellets in bulk and we are not sure where we are fishing but by the sounds of it, it doesn't matter where we fish.

4 of us went 3 times last year, 2 used pellet and various boilies, 1 used prawns and I used mussels. Mussels came out on top every time, the last session in september i caught 17, biggest 17.4.Speak to the guy who takes your money, especially the 2 kids he has with him, they give some great tips, and fish close in at night, especially if your on the boards, an underarm flick out will do....its mayhem. The guy who takes your money is sound, and likes good banter and haggling the price is a must, we tossed a coin with him and won and got one of us to fish for free (I wont tell you what would have been the outcome if we lost). Its a great place to fish, but don't expect any good pics of any fish, as they are mostly in poor condition around the mouths, as they have been caught numerous times and they do fight like hell, and as BOF said, put your bait runners on and make sure who haven't snagged your line anywhere as you will lose the lot. We are planning to back again this year as it is great fun, although a bit of a trek, but its worth it.

There are a handful of top pegs spread around the res. 32, 33, 34, 50 and 90 to name a few, but have a word with the bailiff to get the up to date info. However here are a few suggestions for a bunch of you to try to get:- On the sailing club bank pegs 20 to 34, Dam wall 40 to 54, Left bank pegs 68 to 72, (then skip the back bay as the fish seem to do the same), resume with pegs 86 through to 97. Good luck BOF

If it were a lot nearer it would be worth just turning up mate, but it would be a very long way to go to find it's matched up, and all the good pegs already booked spankysufc. Got to be worth the price of a phone call. The bailiffs number is 07889 532563. BOF

I had to pull my rods out at night because i just wanted some rest!
Great day out. you will be knackered at the end of it though!
