Anyone fished the caledonian canal? Hiring a boar for a week in Sept. from Laggan and wondered what species to expect? I presume Pike and trout are the mainstay?

Fished around here lots of times. Some nice pike to be had but we mainly fished for the brown trout, bubble float and worm fished about 2 foot deep gets you lots of bites off brownies averaging about half a pound. Loch Ness was as good as anywere for pike and trout. Theres also charr and eels and you might even catch a monster ;D. Even if the fishings the scenery more than makes up for it. I think the salmon season stops mid september and theres a good tackle shop in Inverness. If your fishing maggots take your own there very expensive there but there worms arn't a bad price.Enjoy

Also fished this area a lot. Both loch oich and lochy produce a lot of pike. Found the bottom weedy so you will need to pop up a bait to catch the pike. I use pollan as they have a natural buoyancy. Do not use vac packed pollan as all the air is taken out of the fish.
Also large shoals of Bream travel along the lochs and canal sections. Can have a field day if they can be located.
the scenery up there is second to none.

Hi everyone, new to this site and stumbled across it as I am a fisheries biologist based near inverness and am looking to research the possibility that more coarse fish are present up here than people think. I have heard rumour that there may be other species present and as I was brought up coarse fishing ( from good ole Yorkshire myself) I would be extremely interested. I would like to know if there is any proof regarding the bream mentioned above and any other species. Thanks in advance.
