Is there such a thing thats worth buying ? I was thinking of a rod that could cast 4oz 6oz & 8oz leads with multiplier reel, about 12-13ft and not cost a fortune. Under £100, but nearer £50.
Thanks

Casting such weights doesnt rely on the tip . the butt of the blank provides most of the power required, with the middle portion a limited amount . watch a slow motion vid of a good caster, and you will see the butt is barely deflected, while the tip is still facing the lead. I have seen beach rods, with different tips but i always thought they were for bite detection. moons ago, i cut an old abu 154 down and spliced a big quiver tip in to it to see small rattles, while fishing at range. thile it was great for 5-8oz of lead, you wouldn't have gained anything using a smaller lead. Just use a lighter rod if possible. If its bite detection, have you considered a longer rod, with a big FS rrel and braid? Though possibly not on an east coast rock mark?

Thanks jerseyman and sorry i took so long to reply. I understand when you say the casting power is in the butt of the rod. Having thought about it, I think what i was trying to say was, is it a good idea to get a multi-tip rod for someone hoping to return to sea fishing after many many years,(carbon rods were just coming on the scene and very very expensive, that gives you an idea of how long ago)
Many thanks
