just a quick question if your fishing a match and hook a barbel what is the right thing to do weight it straight away and put back(after it has rested so it doesnt go belly up) regardless of size or put it in your keepnet ive been reading how much of a delicate fish they are so is puttng them in a keepnet a bad idea sorry if its a dumb question but im a newbie lol all knowledge is good knowledge

I would get someone else to weigh it, preferably one of the match organisers, before returning it after 'resting'. Weighing it yourself will only cause people to think that you added a few ounce or even a lb here or there. A witness is always better. As you quite rightly said, they should not be kept in keepnets, it can damage fins etc. Don't forget to keep a note of the weight, jot it down. It could be a match winner, section win etc.

take a look in the rivers section under " fin rot " the condition of this fish's fins and tail are caused by secondary bacterial infections that have arisen because of the fin damage and stress sustained by repeated captures and landing or keep net damage .... ukzero is spot on in his advice
