I've been brought up on radio commentarys by men so you get used to them but now a few women are doing it and in my opinion not doing a bad job they are maybe a little softer on the ear than men sreaming down the mic when a goal is scored

thats one point im looking at. the excitement when a goal is scored and the pitch of voice. men seem to give you a real surge of excitement whereas as women are a bit duller in tone and pitch. anymore thoughts.....

I have to say that Gabby Logan and Helen Chamberlain are great to watch and have good knowledge of the game, however...women will never understand how football effects a man...ask Spunky..I am not a nice person when Liverpool loose and Spunky keeps out of my way, it really does effect me that bad Thats why women will never be as good as men because they cant show the same emotions as men. Just watch Ian Wright when he watches England

Luke. I don't think that how excited a man or woman gets when they watch football will give you the opportunity to demonstrate your powers with the English language that is required at YR 13 level - certainly if you are talking about A Level.

Basically there is no place for women in football at all...... I eat and breathe football, have done for years following York all over Britain. But if I turn on the t.v. and a women presenter is holding forth about football I turn it straight off. Why ? Because football is for males and I dont need to hear from some faker about what she thinks she knows. Womens football ? If its really as good as all the girlies keep saying it is why are the attendances so poor ? And if one more women turns around and says to me at a York game to stop swearing

I'm not sure what you are looking at here but Male/Female at an actual match doesn't seem to make any difference. That is to say that if you are Female and like football on a Saturday afternoon (as opposed to watching on TV) then you are likely to be as passionate as anyone else in the ground.
Commentary? Not sure that you have to even be a football fan to get the job. We are after all talking "show business".
As a Male I prefer another Male doing the commentary (and particular ones at that) but that is perhaps because I don't hear any alternative. You would have to "test the waters". Certainly some of the Females I know from real matches are as passionate and knowledgeable about the game as anyone else in the ground.

thanks guys for the replies. much appreciated. 3x2, my investigation is to look into language and gender and how this effects the way language is spoken or written. so for example, im looking into the phonology of the words and the terminology(lexis) they use. rsdewsbury, i aren't that young and i know that women have emotion as frank said, if you tuned in to the FA cup final to hear a women presenting the game you would be rather surprised, i'm all for women doing football commentary but i think men are so use to men commentating, that when women do it, it makes you feel a tad alientated because us lads aren't use to women commentating. anyways, im writing it up now, its on for tomorrow and im going to struggle to be honest so i better get cracking, thanks a lot guys.
