Very topical at the moment,is it worth getting the tackle out at the moment with temperatures at 10C in the day dropping down to -5C at night time, the fish don't know what day it is! My local (New Biggin) was frozen over, thawed out, but was very cold, a few days of milder weather followed by two days of spring like sunshine then back to freezing cold again this morning, there will be warmer fish coming out of the freezer than the ponds today phill.

It's probably not worth fishing if the day time max is three or four degrees and the night time temps are below freezing.
Although I've had the occasional pike in freezing weather, it's not the best of conditions for fishing.

Never found it get too cold for a session fishing for grayling or chub on the river. I've also had some excellent catches of roach from stillwaters that have been frozen for days, hard work breaking the ice to make a fishable swim though!

Agreed Robp, as a kid I have fished in sub zero conditions on the Swale and had plenty of grayling and/or chub for my efforts. Its hard fishing, the eyes on your rod keep freezing (use a bit of glycerine to stop this) and the edges of the river start to freeze, but you can still catch. Its me these days that prefers slightly warmer conditions for fishing, not the fish being too cold. I'll never forget a session on the Swale that I had on a Boxing Day when I was 11 years old. It was minus 3 or 4 degrees, I was absolutely frozen to the bone despite being well wrapped up, everything was freezing up. yet still I managed to catch 8 or 9 good grayling on my brand new 13ft float rod. My parents thought I was mental to fish in such conditions but I was desperate to try that rod out.
