Have any of you fine people any experience or memories of Trout Tickling. When I was a young lad me and some mates used to go tickling Trout in a tiny stream that ran into Adel beck in North Leeds. The stream was only around 1ft deep at the deepest and no more than 3ft wide.We caught quite a few Brownies in there which we put back. The biggest Trout we caught must have weighed about two or three pounds,I recall little Howard Cohen could fit his hand inside it's mouth.

Keith, bear in mind it is over 30 years since we did this but I will try to explain. The stream in question is very narrow, around 2-3ft wide at most and no more than 1ft deep.It is quite fast flowing and the fish were always found in the deeper spots, where the bank had been under cut. What I used to do was lie on my belly when I found a likely looking spot and very slowly, gently put my hand in the water and feel very carefully under the near side bank working my way upstream. If a Trout was there you could feel it's tail first because they would always be facing upstream.Very, very cautiously, slowly you worked your hand along the fish until you were in a position to grab it.At all times your hand/fingers would be under the fish and in a flash you grabbed it and there you are.Thinking about it you would think the Trout would swim off but amazingly they didn't.I don't think we actually tickled them on purpose but because you couldn't see them you had to feel for them and position your hand in the right spot before you could grab them.If you just went along and stuck your hand in obviously they would have swam away but if you were very quiet, carefull etc you could catch them.I will return to the stream with my mate Big Eddy when the season opens and see if they are still there.Cheers.

Thank you for the explanation. I live fairly near to the beck where it runs through Adel woods.
