Hi All,
I just read rex's post, it got me thinking, which are your favourite free fisheries?
I think mine would have to be the River Aire in Armley at the moment, been having some good fun with the Chub & Trout.
I also fish Bierley Woods, which is free too.
Anybody else do much free fishing?

-Dearne, well upstream of Harlington, proper Jungle stuff must be one of only a handfull to fish it, and there's some monster Dace and Chub Monsters for the area anyway upto 1lb and 5lb! -Calder, several spots; Wakefield Chantry, Eastmoor Wier and Whitwood. Nowt big yet but plenty of variety and much promise for the future. -A short Stream in Wakefield, Perfect when every other running water is only fishable with them Watch Lead things and Carp rods. Full of Roach, Perch, Ide, Dace and Chub.

Roundhay Park is pretty good in the summer. I like the Canal at Bramley too, down the side of the Acorn pub next to the bridge at the bottom. It's a fish-a-chuck most of the time, nothing monstrous but there's some good perch in there. It's good fun though

Amen corner is the bad corner at the bottom of Cockshott lane. You cant miss it as there is a nasty (very) narrow bridge over the canal.

That sounds very similar to the place i fish...lol You turn right (coming from kirkstall) down the side of the acorn pub and you go down the hill past the park on your right hand side, down more hill, then you get to a hump back bridge that everyone beep's their horn as they go over? Then the canal is on your right, Abbey pub is on your left further down?? Don't know Bramley very well at all so forgive the vague-ness of my description

Amen corner is approximately a 25-30 min walk from where your fishing Rex going towards leeds from Bramley. I know both places very well as I spent thousands of hours fishing here as a kid. The boatyard at the bottom of the hill holds tons of fish particulary bream. Those carp your on about are catchable cos Ive had a few but you are right thay are very cagey. Havnt been fishing here for years as I live on the other side of leeds now (but still in the Acorn every sunday for a few bevvies with the lads) but I remember very clearly that there was a huge Ghost carp that used to hang around with the other carp that was far and away the biggest of the lot. Hard to say cos never saw it on the bank but it must have been middle twenties. It was a real beast and I nearly had him one day. Was watching my bread on the surface and saw a number of carp coming my way when all of a sudden the big fella came up to the surface, swallowed my bread and then I struck into thin air. You could hear me swearing in Leeds city centre apparently! Chances like that are probably once in a lifetime and I blew it! Caught all mine in the summer. Last hour or so of light with floating bread crust. Back to the original subject of favourite free fishery I would have to say its in that boatyard at the bottom of Newlay lane. Great fishing in the summer months.
Cheers
