You will probably catch pike accidentally when spinning for perch so you need to beef up your kit a bit so that you won't lose pike which might bite through a nylon line tied direct to a lure. I suggest: 8 or 9 ft spinning rod capable of casting up to 30 gms(1oz) Min 8lb to 10lb nylon line, or say 15lb braid if you can afford it Small or medium sized fixed spool reel, which you should already have Medium sized link swivels to tie to the end of the reel line Wire traces about 10" long, 15 lb breaking strain. A trace is attached to the link swivel Lures, which you attach to the far end of the trace, which should have a link swivel on it - try these: A selection of small spinners weighing up to 15gms (0.5 oz) Some small cheap plugs A few small spoons Some small chubby shads made by fox. Long forcep to unhook any pike you catch. Look at www.pacgb.com for advice on unhooking. When fishing, keep tackle to a minimum and move swims every 15 to 20 mins if you get no takes. Retrieve the lure slowly. Change lures if no takes. Avoid cold frosty days and days when the water is heavily coloured following a flood.

Yesterday's edition (tues 9/1/7) has a two page spread on tactics and tackle for perch spinning by predatro maestro Mick Brown. Worth buying and reading it.

I believe it is the Angling Times newspaper - £1.40 from all good newsagents (and some rubbish ones).
Good tips I thought
