Instead of twigs try to find large bird feathers. Ideally from a Crow, Swan, Goose, or perhaps if you are lucky a Peac ocks tail feather. Then carefully peel off the feather material from the stem (its the stem that you use) by pulling from the blunt end towards the tip. Or by Very carefully trimming it away with a sharp modeling blade or Stanley knife. Paint the blunt end, then, firstly with a white undercoat, then a fluorescent Orange, or Yellow, top coat. When that is dry (about 48 hours) cover everything with a clear varnish. BOF

i make my own dibbers out of balsa for margin fishing, they dont have to be special ,because large carp from the margins will break any top margin float imho.

I use alloy welding rods for my float stems, or split lengths of bamboo skewer (from kebabs). BOF

I didnt know that Christopher. I have always put a layer of clear over the tip as otherwise it just chips off, too easily. BOF

Not able to access this link, is it correct? BOF Yes, I've just double checked with Angling Times. Perhaps the makers of the kits haven't got round to creating the web site. I've experienced this in the past when looking at new products on the web.

Years ago Porcupine Quills were quite popular,I used them mostly for laying on tactics and they worked very well.I know you can buy the smaller ones cheaply on ebay but it might be worth getting in touch with Flamingo Land etc you could maybe get them for free? You don't have to do much to them, just colour the tip and maybe add a coat of varnish.

My dad uses 'Bullrush' Reed stems all the way from scotland hehe. They make excellent floats!
