I'm thinking of joining the Leeds yearbook this year aswell as Bradford No.1. Having looked at the website the stillwaters look and sound good but it doesnt say what species are in each lake. Does anybody know which of the lakes contain Pike? I know wintersett has them in but last time I went for a walk around there it was littered with burnt-out cars. That doesnt give me the greatest of confidence when fishing a distance away from the car!!! ;D Cheers, Chris

WintersettTo my mind the best still water Pike venue in the book. But regrettably the straightforward answer to the car problem is you don't fish away from your vehicle. Its sad, but it seems to be a fact of life in the area. Most of the best Pike fishing is in their rivers however. Leeds not being known for their warm and friendly feelings toward Pike or for putting or retaining them in their still waters. However you may find the odd surprise in the Leeds and Liverpool canal length. BOF

wintersett its self has the bigger fish but just dont fish tofar from your car, although, i have had no trouble and it seems that they just take them to there to burn, and not take them from there.
botnay lake has more but smaller pike and you can park behind you in most places, just watch pot holes on both though

Chris - The Leeds Knotofrd Lagoon at Otley has pike in it - folk will tell you otherwise but seeing as I have now caught 2 out of there, both on lures, I can verify 100% that they are in there.
BOF's right though, its either Wintersett for the stillwater pike, but don't ignore the river Wharfe at Pool. Plenty of pike down there, it was featured on the front cover of Anglers Mail about 3 weeks ago.

I know that both the Bradford and the Leeds Knotford Lagoons have Pike in them. I'm unsure of if they were originally stocked or if they made their way into the lakes from the Wharfe flooding.
I had my first lure fishing trip to the Bradford lake this summer with no success. In fairness, it was warm and too bright. When the rivers are unfishable I think a Pike trip to Knotford is in order. I’m going to put two deadbait rods out and see what happens. I’ve seen lots of small jack Pike in there plus a decent sized Pike.
I know that Pool is a hotspot for Pike. I had my first ever Pike from below the bridge ( oh happy days! ;D ). I remember seeing an article in anglers mail a while ago and it threw up a couple of twenties and some nice Pike.
It looks like I’m going to have to add a drifter float to my massive armoury of Fox floats when I go to Wintersett and explore some water.
Cheers,
Chris

In the Leeds lake I think the pike have got in there from the Wharfe, as far as I know Leeds have never stocked pike in there deliberately.

Given the wind in the right direction, they can be great devices for searching out Pike. Much better than just lobbing out a legered deader and hoping for the best. My trouble is in transporting the things, without breaking them, (I make my own from skewers, and poly balls). I think I need a cut down rod tube or something, as its rare for one to last more than a couple of trips. BOF
