Anybody out there who uses this stuff and isn't afraid to collect it themselves, I have a wasps nest at the bottom of my garden in a mound of soil.
Should be fairly straightforward to poison/smoke and then dig out. No idea how the big the nest could be as I'm not sure how long it has been there?
I live in Yeadon up by the airport.
Anyone interested just reply to this post!

:DLOL Very funny. Seriously though, these little buggers have already stung my son twice, it does'nt help that he keeps trying to block the entrance up with stones . No fear until he got stung by them . If no takers for it, any suggestions for the strongest and best way to get rid of them would be greatly appreciated .

Hi Andy. on the subject of getting rid of the nest. You can get Wasp Nest Killer powder. All you do is sprinkle or squirt the powder round the entrance to the nest and the wasps take it in.It is lethel and should work overnight. I should keep your youngster away from it in the meanwhile in case they surge out and go for him. If that happens he will be a hospital case.If he does get attacked get him inside under the shower and strip his clothes off and phone three 9's. Why do I know all this? Because I have had it to do when a child kicked a nest open in the wood that bounderies our house. We all got stung but he was in overnight.

Be careful Andy, wasps can be very nasty when vexed, obviously your young 'un knows first hand. Had one a few years back, didn't cause too much trouble as the nest was out of the way. When the weather cooled and the wasps either left or died had a close look at the nest - what an amazing feat of engineering. They look like they have been made from layers and layers of paper with one entrance/exit hole leading to a central core containing the honeycomb (obviously where the grubs grow and hatch.) Very clever how the wasps construct the nest, shame everybody hates them !

I agree Bluey, the nest are absolutely amazing things. Here is a bit of info on them:- The nest of a wasp is made out of a paper like substance. The wasp s es off wood fibres from trees and fence posts with its strong jaws and then carries this wood pulp back to the nest. The pulp is pinched and pushed into shape and ends up as a form of delicate paper. The nest has cells which have six sides, hanging down from a central stem. There is one queen in every nest and she lays all the eggs. The eggs hatch out into LARVAE and these gradually PUPATE (change into adult wasps) in the CELL where they were laid. The cells of the nest are used for rearing the larvae; wasps do not make honey or store food. Fascinating or what . And heres me thinking all they do is fly around all day looking for innocents to sting!!!!!!!!!!

A word of warning with that powder. I bought some a couple of years back as I had a nest in the back garden.
I waited till dusk and puffed the stuff all round the entrance and into it. I then ran indoors to take cover.
A couple of hours later I opened the back door and 4 of the beggers flew in, ther were flying about 10 times faster than normal and they chased me across the kitchen and were banging on the other side of the glass door after i slammed it shut.
They really wanted a piece of me and it took em a while to die too.

Wow Col, what was the powder you dusted em with. Sounds to me you sprinkled a naughty substance on them, thats all you need, spaced out wasps, they probably chased you for another hit mate.
