Fished Saltaire through the week.Evidence of illegal fishing.Makeshift rod rests etc.Saw one guy who walked past where I was fishing and did not acknowledge me when I spoke to him.No wonder the fishing was poor.Thats my excuse anyway.

I was reliably told that a line in the dearne was tied to a weight which was left on the bank for the poacher to get later ....he thought it was a crayfish trap but on retrieval it was a barbed hook with no bait left on, crayfish had probably ate it..... the angler who found it took it apart and threw it away ... I am on the look out for these devices now. There is some nice barbel in that stretch too.

It's always worth letting the EA know (take a photo on your phone and txt them) - they may not take any action but at least we've done our bit! - I did a few years back when I saw a truckload of South European s dealers (starting with R) poaching on the Trent. Be careful about taking tackle, nets etc. away, you know what the Law is like in this country - you could end up in court for theft!!!
