As an exiled Lancastrian living in what is claimed to be 'God's own county', well done to Yorkshire for a fantastic turn-out for the start of this year's event. I was fearing the worst when the weather changed this week, but thankfully the sun is shining! The world is watching and you've put on a great show!

I'm off to the Sunday stage. Fish the Don in the morning then watch the Tour in the afternoon. It passes my lad's front door.

Im in Oughtibridge. Filling up nicely here. Fans park looks very busy. Fished the Don this morning for 16 trout, a perch and a nice grayling about 12oz. Trout up to about 1.5lb. My lad had a nice chub of about 2lb on a lure as well as a few trout. Was lovely and quiet where we fished- well away from all the visitors! Now awaiting the parade and race.

Day 2 was just as good as day 1 with crowds and sunshine to make everyone proud. What an advert for Yorkshire!

What a great day. My only complaint was that the crowd controllers wouldn't let anyone cross the river bridge in Oughtibridge over the river in order to watch the race on the hill summit, which is where we intended to go. We had to go the opposite direction to the downhill stretch just before Oughtibridge. We had just left it too late after fishing to get the best spots. The riders must have been hitting 40 mph on the bend where we stood. Got some great photos but alas no freebies from the sponsor cars. Crowds were immense and very well behaved.

Had a glimpse of the race both yesterday and today said i was not going to watch it ,well 3 hours later I was stuck to the telly on both days there are some things we are really good at and putting on things like this is definitely one of them (if only we could learn how to play sports as good)

Great afternoon all in all! As mentioned it was a shame we couldn't get up towards Grenoside from Oughtibridge but hey ho - we ended up that close to the action we almost got taken out by the riders and motorcycles whizzing past. Read from friends on Facebook that they waded across the river and believe me, that water was pretty cold today!! One great photo I've just stumbled across captures everything...
