Personally I don't know why they waste money making these cards surly it's easier now a day's just to keep everyone on computer and then ask people who are Fishing just to show ID If they are checked and if it comes back as they ant got one fine em don't understand why that little bit of card proves I have paid they don't know me I could give mine to anyone and they wouldn't av a clue where as ID such as a driving licence has my photo so they know exactly who there dealing with

Looks like an otters had hold of your tench! LOL What I found so annoying is the fact that I'm always getting new bank or credit cads through the post and have never had any trouble. There's are usualy fixed by 2 blobs of that sticky stretchy glue. You know the stuff I mean? It's never an issue. Yet these have been smothered in glue right up to the edges! I mean they're in an envelope so they're not going any where are they? Not quite sure but this really simple thing got me fired up!

Thing is with credit cards etc there are proper plastic cards, durable and strong. The license is absolutely crud! Just a bit of weak card, mine always ends up knackered anyway. Agree with the above post about ID instead and having it all on a database, that would be spot on

It's all kept on a database anyway so they can check up if you don't have your licence with you.

Have asked bailiff why cards are issued rather than just keeping details on computer database so he can confirm ID of anglers then check if they're on database. He laughed then pointed to about 20 other anglers, saying "so that's about 20 phone calls here for starters..........wonder how many bailiffs are working today in England and how many phone calls and operators it would take to answer all those calls quickly, and how many unlicensed dodgers would be slinking off while were hanging onto phonecalls....? Point taken. He thinks EA are experimenting down south with new licence checking technology for bailiffs. Anyone heard anything about that yet?

This is probably the cheapest option - just needing running through a computerised printer system. The ideal would be a card similar to a credit/debit card that could be topped up every year at a Bank or Post Office and scanned by a reader carried by a Bailiff. It's all down to cost as usual - just because it says fishing licence doesn't mean the money is spent on fishing - not since the old River Authorities existed anyway -- (think road fund licence!!!!)

There's several options to improve on things but in the mean time all I'm asking is for the firm contracted out by the EA to use less damn glue! Simples PS glad it wasn't just me then Bob. Thought I was doing something wrong

Ive had a reply from the EA about my complaint...............
Dear Mr Razey,
Thank you for your email regarding the glue that is used to attach the rod licences to the covering letters. We are sorry you have had cause to complaint.
Our licences go through testing each year to determine their suitability for use by our anglers so we test their water resistance and durability. We also try to ensure that the glue used to attach them is strong enough to hold them in position but not strong enough to cause damage to the licence. I apologise that this has not been the case for you. There is normally a standard amount of glue used to stop this damage occurring and this should be consistent across all licences however it appears from your email and photo that this may not be the case.
Each year, we compile all feedback from anglers regarding our stationery and licences and discuss it at our service review meetings with an intention to improve the service we offer you. I will be passing this on personally to our printers to see if there is an alternative method we can use to attach the licences next year that would be less damaging.
Again, please accept my apologies that you have experienced this problem in multiple licensing years and I hope to rectify this for you for next year. I hope you have a great fishing season.
Kind Regards Hannah Nugent Data Officer Enforcement Officer National Enforcement Service Environment Agency

It looks torn but it's actualy the paper off the letter stuck to the card. A sharp knife and bathroom cleaner managed to bring it back to life

Read on a Facebook page about a guy who ordered 2 licenses and 4 turned up! However on thinking he'd got 2 of each he checked the serial numbers and they are all the same. Huh!

Mine was the same, tried teasing it off, ended up putting the wife's hair drier on it for 5 minutes to softer the glue up, had a feeling that if I didn't I'd have ripped it.
For what we pay would a card the same style as a credit card really be too much to ask? These cards cost pennies when bought in bulk, couple more pennies to double side print. I used to work with this gear so it stings when I see my direct debit going up and going out each year and each year the quality gets lower
