Nothing to do on me snap break at work so thought i'd do a quick write up on my last fishing holiday. Bare with me, I'm pony at doing write ups
Don't really do much river fishing apart from in Norfolk and usually try to get down 3 weeks or so a year, 2 in August with the family when the kids are off and the rivers resemble the M25 and usually try for a week with the lads February time targeting the Pike & Ale. For the overall package of good fishing and relaxation away from work I'm yet to find a better place, the nipper is 12 now and getting into his fishing and the missus likes any holiday where she can do as little as possible so it's a winner all round.
For the last 5-6 years we have always hired a boat out. We used to rent a bungalow next to the river on the Thurne, but hiring a boat and having that freedom to explore and fish where you want does it for me. This time we hired out of Stalham so had 3 main rivers to go at The Ant, Bure & Thurne. Could have got down further south to the Yare, Waveney & Chet but plenty of choice where we were. Hired a fairly basic boat that had all you needed inside, was built like a tank and was finished in LUFC colours You can pay top dollar for a top of the range one with Sky TV etc but for me it would be wasted money, I've all year to watch dross on TV

Spent 2 spot on weeks, the weather was about as good as it get's for this country Picked the boat up on the Saturday from Stalham and had a steady pootle down the Ant to Ludham Bridge for a tackle shop/Butchers stop. Had a walk into the village and picked up some night lights for the feeders, 25kg of bread crumb, various bottles of additives, half a ton of worms and some other bits I didn't really need. Also dropped in at the butchers to pick up 10kg of sausage rusk i'd phoned through to order the week before, fishing essentials bought back to the boat.
Spent the first week touring up and down the Bure doing alot of fishing around the St Bennett's Abbey area (always good Bream write up's in AT) Fish a chuck all day everyday which is brilliant for the nipper, float fishing double maggott off the end of the boat catching Ruff, Gudgeon, Roach, Skimmers, the odd Rudd, some nice sized Perch and even a few bootlaces for good measure. It was like been a kid again catching silvers all day long with a big smile slapped across my chops. The Bream on a night was excellent sport waiting till about 8pm for the boat traffic to die off then getting the groundbait balled in, just a simple mix of breadcrumb and rusk with a little flavour added in did the trick, and fishing a worm/sweetcorn cocktail on the feeder. Had some really good Bream out each night. Although I didn't weigh any of the bags we had we were averaging between 20-30 fish per night up to 5lbs ish fishing from around 10pm to 1-2am.
2nd week we moved onto the Thurne doing the same. The fishing was as good as the Bure, did a little more sightseeing than the first week just to keep out of the doghouse but still managed plenty of fishing.
The youngster keeps telling me he caught more fish.... he can tackle his own rods up next time
Even tried getting the pooch involved, she wasn't as enthusiastic about fishing
Anyway holiday over for another year, just gotta wait till February now!
Great place and great fishing. It's well worth a visit if you've never been.
