Been asked by a local social club to help them organise a boat trip, unfortunately the last time I went out up here was the mid nineties before I upped sticks for Plymouth. Can anyone recommend a good boat and skipper, thinking either Whitby or Bridlington. Will definately need someone who provides all the tackle and bait and also has plenty of patience with what will probably be a boat full of Clampetts. Thanks in advance guys.
Paul.

Finny, do you know of any reputable charter boats from brid or scarborough, am thinking of booking one for my work mates, looking to do inshore bait fishing for lots of bites not bothered about the uk cod record this trip. Have been with sea trek and sea otter from whitby buy not shy torque any info would be great, ps there all novices at it so a patient skipper would be a help. cheers alan.

Alan I have sent a e-mail to one of my mates to see if he can recommend any one. I know Greengrass went out with a charter boat from Brid or Scarborough a few weeks ago and he wasn't pleased so I will find out who it was and let you know. ;D

Charter BoatsGreengrass went on the middle one and was not happy. He said that the skipper supplies the tackle but they booked for 9 and he let another 3 on so they spent most of the day in tangles. I'll let you know when I get any more info on some others. ;D ;D ;D

He's very patient and asking for his help is what he's there for. We've used Paul for over 10 years, he's not demanding and will offer all the help you need.

Speaking to a few mates, forget Brid as it is . Far better to go a little further up the coast to Whitby and use one of the boats mentioned on this thread. Finny, As for the numbers, most boats are licensed for 12 anglers and unless you charter the full boat, paying the rate, the skipper will always try to make up the numbers.

They where under the impression the had charted the whole boat and they where not pleased the skipper just wanted to make more money. He would not let them clean their fish on board and it did not matter if they where under sized he wanted to keep them. Greengrass said that most of the fish should have been put back but the skipper wanted them even though they where to small to keep. No wonder the fishing is with skippers like that.

Sounds like a right rip off merchant then, mind you i am not surprised seeing that it was Brid. It seems that there is not much what can be said on the positive side about any of the skippers now. We have just been talking at work after reading this thread and a few of the guys have boats on the East coast and they say they are all a bunch of bandits. Some of my relatives have a boat at Brid and they do not have a good word to say about them neither. It seems all they are after doing is fleecing unwary and unsuspecting holiday makers by and large.

If I go boat fishing I go to Ryhl the skippers there are really good and helpful, they go out of there way to get you onto fish.

Most skippers can supply you with gear, when you phone up to book just ask him. They do charge you but it usually about a fiver I think. You want to buy some hokkia’s which are just fancy mackerel feathers and some 2 and 3 hook flappers and probably a box of squid but the skipper should tell you all this. Don’t forget your sea sick tablets. ;D ;D ;D

Just found this on another site. I've read a few times on the internet forums over the past couple of weeks of anglers taking good catches form the Whitby charter boat fishing trips. Today I read one on WSF forum about Paul Kilpatricks boats sea otter 2. The story was of a great days fishing with pictures of every box on the boat full of fish. I phoned Paul earlier tonight and he confirmed they had been having some truely fantastic fishing over the past 2 weeks. Paul even went on to mention the words "cod recovery" and said the fishing was better than for a long time. It is thought that this is a result of fewer boats and less pair trawlers now working the grounds around Whitby. Paul's site
