I dropped my wife off at a restaurant last night on St Andrews quay and saw a guy night fishing with his lad. It was about 3c with an icy wind! Went to pick her up a few hours later and they were still there. Looked chufin freezing to me but looked like they were enjoying themselves.
Anyone else brave enough to night fish in this weather?

Not over past two seasons and i didn't do full nights, but..... I've been on Brid pier while about 10pm before Gordon some nights, when i used to do a lot of Sea fishing. I used to question my sanity at times, with temperatures below freezing and the brisk sea wind slicing you in half But there was nothing better going home and cooking a freshly caught Whiting and Chips to warm you back up again and they're miles nice than Cod and Haddock too, to boot! Used to stink to high heaven of bait and fish. The look on my grandma's face when i piped up i was off down the peir, lol!

Hi Gordon I go sea fishing (mainly nights) every weekend throughout the winter. The coarse gear is packed away and i love it . Had a very good start to the winter too with Cod and Whiting from the river. I will fish the beaches closer to Christmas when the crabs age/woqzjvl0d/] [/url] off. I have managed to get Andy Hornby into it this year too after 20 years if trying. You should give it a go Rob

I havent been this winter yet, but got out sea fishing the last 3 winters or so. Last year i was out on a remote rock when the gauge said -12C, a couple of whiting and some coalies the result. I enjoyed it actually, at least i think i did, may have blocked out the bad memories

If you fish the river you can use a brolly and attach it to the railings or sometimes you have grass behind you. However i dont do this very often. On the coast its wear as many layers as you can , jump around like an idiot, take the biggest flask you can carry and tell yourself its better than going home and watching X factor Rob

Proper beer batter chips n mushy peas....can't beat it!!! ;D I dont think anyone goes into a chippy asking for "codling"n chips though! Did 3 hrs on St. Andrews quay this eve n caught a whiting to nearlly a pound, which will make a nice contribution to a fish pie...

3C? Positively tropical. Folk usually fish for Cod (at this time of year) during or just after an Arctic storm. Winds from the NW to NE ripping up the coastline. Been out plenty of times when my food and water has been frozen solid. You keep doing it though in much the same way that some stalk Carp with a passion. Some, of course, are simply insane ... www.whitbyseaanglers.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=28057.0 ("Bempton Birdash - The Real Tough One" is a classic)
