Looking for help here. I've not been sea-fishing for many, many years (about 25) and was thinking about having another go but i need some help with multiplier reels. In the past i used multiplier reels but the rod was upside down when casting and retrieving if you know what i mean ? (never had a line spreader thing, used thumb) I think what I'm asking is, does anyone know what I'm on about and can offer any advice on left and right handed multipliers ?
Many thanks
Steve

Not an expert on beachcasting multipliers but don't think things have changed too much
The majority of reels are still R/H although some manufacturers do L/H versions of some models - Penn for one
Most reels have line spreaders these days and magnetic systems to prevent birdsnests so things have improved a little

Thanks for the link jerseyman, just one more question, if i buy a R/H multiplier and use it in revese (rod upside down), does this affect the spreader on the reel or the rods performance ? Thanks Steve

Should be same as when lure fishing.
multipliers are used upside down( reel on top of rod) if you hold a rod in your right hand( fish right handed) you will have LHW reel. if you fish left handed(rod in left hand) you will use a RHW. Most are LHW(left hand wind) not a left hand reel which could be a classed as Right hand Wind you can not simply turn the reel round.
Simply put think which hand do you hold the rod in then get a opposite Hand wind.
Just sold a 5601 LHW reel, but i do believe Mark Green is about to sell one.

didnt have a reel to hand so had to hold a crab, in answer to steve's question yes and no, a std 65 multiplier can be used on the bottom of the rod, however you would have to wind backwards to retreive, every thing else [drag/levelwind/casting/performance ] is unaffected. edit. not quite correct, when retrieving under load, its normal to pump the rod, and normally ,when using balanced gear you will have to thumb the spool at some stage ,to stop line been given , if the reel is upside down, thats immpossible
