cheers for the pm jerseyman. i tried to fish around corbiere with the lures but never seemed to catch the tide right. also the wind was against me. met a couple of lads diving with spear guns, they had caught a couple of wrasse with the spears about 5lb. they took me out on their boat a couple of times from st catherines breakwater and we all caught a real mixed bag fishing further out to sea.also managed a couple of small bass around 5lb on the lures. anyway i may contact you again the next time i come over to get some info on the coarse fishing.if i win a few million on the lottery i may even buy a little holiday home for myself.the island is absolutely gorgeous.

Few bass showing on the coast to bait fisherman - earlier than usual due to the warm spring weather I think Should be up for my first lure fishing session later this week I'm getting more and more convinced that they hang around all year. Fish the right conditions and the right bait ... Basstastic. I got this (below) in end January/start February after a storm (washed up double - but still alive) and (not pictured) a decent live Bass. So at least some Bass must hang around in the colder months. Then again - Ya just don't know what is hanging around www.whitbyseaanglers.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=27746

Plenty of bass caught out to sea during the colder weather from boats but few and far between during the winter months close in
I generally wait till the magic 10degree sea temp before fishing in earnest from the shore

Not looking good for early season bass this year - sea temps well down on this time last year due to the long winter Looks like I'll be travelling further afield

Decided to have my first trip to Flamboro this year more for the exercise than with any real hope of catching anything. Bought a shed of new lures over the winter and needed to see how well they performed Sea was pretty flat but coloured - as usual unfortunately and only a chilly 7degrees After a couple of hours I put on a new megabass cutter which casts well and has a strange 'just below the surface' action which I quite like. Anyway 3rd cast this little fellow decided he wanted it and was duly landed. Lovely little fish - all bristling with indignation and virtually fin perfect. he probably only weighed a couple of pounds but it was a nice surprise to open my account for 2013. He was duly returned and swam off strongly to tell all his mates about the adventure

Well done Phil, it's usually About mid may until I think about bass fishing so to get a lure caught one this early is a good result.
Lovely fish aren't they?

Yes they are lovely fish and virtually everyone I catch has never been caught before It was quite a surprise I must admit especially with the low water temps - 2/3 degrees lower than this time last year. The little devil must have been particularly hungry tho he looked well on it. Whether it bodes well for the coming months is anybody's guess tho. I'll be away shortly for 3 weeks so heres hoping theres plenty about when I return
